You may remember, a few years ago, CZ was essentially ousted by his own company for being a naughty boy.
The person who replaced him was, we had been told, a compliance guy. He was chosen, we'd been told, so that Binance could do better in terms of compliance.
Fast-forward to a few years later, and Binance is facing two massive problems.
First, the hack. That's not related to compliance, but it's not a good look.
Second, they didn't get the MICA license and can no longer operate in the UE/EEA.
I'm sorry. How's this not ridiculous?
We know that, when it comes to anything tech-related, the EU is backwards and slow and ponderous and often silly, but you're still looking at 450+ million people, at least half of which (and I'm being conservative) are eligible customers.
And the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the world, the one that championed a new era of compliance after replacing its tech bro CEO with a compliance, white-collar CEO failed to comply with the required regulations.
Give me a break.
