It was founded in 2014 which, by crypto standards, is an eon ago.

Lockheed and Filecoin successfully tested something called the Interplanetary File System (IPFS), which in plain English means they managed to transfer data to a satellite orbiting Earth.

I tried breaking down how this system works but my brain melted.

But, in relatively simple terms, it means it apparently uses content, not location, to identify data.

This, in theory, can reduce delays and it's ideal for space communication which, clearly, is something we're going to have to pay a lot of attention to in the future.
