Poem: Three Little Words

Poem: Three Little Words

For some, the most difficult words to say out loud are these three little ones.

Three Little Words

I must not speak those words aloud,
for if unleashed on open air,
they might burst my chest apart,
and with such powers so endowed,
explode my beating heart!

Those words might make the Heaven's shake,
might fill the sky with thunder claps,
and call down lightning with a breath,
might force the under-realms to quake,
and put my precious life to death!

I know that once those words are spoken,
the world I know might banish me,
might leave me like night flees the day,
and cast me out, friendless and broken,
to die like shade in sunny ray!

I've heard it said those words can heal,
can even soothe a saddened soul,
and cure a lonely heart's distress,
but I cannot chance they might reveal,
I could not stand my loneliness!

Woe is me, who cannot find a way,
to speak those little words, just three,
those words I hear inside my head,
for I fear it's me they'll steal away,
and take my soul instead.
