Arsenal Vs Bayern Munich: The Teams, Prediction and a Familiar Face

By belemo | belemo | 17 Jul 2019

Arsenal's tour of the USA started brightly, with an easy 3-0 victory against Colorado Rapids, thanks to goals from the youngsters but now things are going to get a bit serious as we have an interesting fixture against Bayern Munich at the home La Galaxy by 4 pm EST on the 18th of July.

The Pre-match press conference had Emery and Xhaka discussing with the press about certain issues, among the topics was leadership and here's what Emery had to say

We have players with the capacity [to be captains]. One is Granit. Last year also he played so much as a captain, and was like a captain in the dressing room.
We also have Mesut and Nacho, and also other players, they can take this position also. I want from three to five captains in the team.

Granit Xhaka has never been one to shy away from and here's what he had to say concerning the topic:

If the club and the coach gives me the armband I will be happy of course. I will be very happy because it is something special. But it's not my first time [to be a captain] because I have been the captain here, I was before in Germany and the national team as well.

About The Game

The game will between two heavyweights in World football who met back in the International Champions Cup on the 19th of July, 2017, where Arsenal triumphed in penalties. That game was under Arsene Wenger and both teams featured relatively strong sides and I suspect this game will be no different.

About The Team

I know it is "just" a preseason fixture but I expect Arsenal to field a relatively strong team and how we set up in that match will indicate how the team will look at the early stages of the season. We will see starts for the usual suspects like Laca, Mesut, Mhki fused with some youngsters. I also expect Martinez to start in goal but won't be surprised if Leno starts as well.

Tactics

In the last game against Colorado Rapids, we set up in a 4-3-3 formation that underlines Emery's insistence on free-flowing attacking football philosophy. I suspect we will set up in pretty much the same way, but going up against a team like Bayern Munich will have the boys playing with a little more restraint.

 Familiar Face

It always hurts when he makes the headline but it is a thing virtually every football fan has experienced at least once in his life.

Going up against Bayern will be the first time Serge Gnabry has met Arsenal since he left and I'm hoping it won't be a pleasant experience for him on the day. I've moved on from the transfer debacle(maybe not totally) and wish him well, we sold a player with loads of potential and now he's plying his trade at the biggest team in Germany.

 Prediction

Both managers are in their second year in respective teams and are still working on imprinting their ideas into the team. Nico Kovac struggled for most of last season and only managed to clinch the Bundesliga title at the last minute despite Borrusia Dortmund's effort. If we're to go by last season and the previous benefit match on May 29: vs. SpVgg Lindau that ended 4-2 in favour of the Bavarian side, we can expect that this game will be an end to end affair.
I predict a 3-2 victory in favour of Arsenal on the day
