Some modern nations consider themselves to be descendants of the warriors of Alexander the Great. These are such peoples as the Hunza, the Kalash, the yazgulyamtsy, the yagnobtsy, the Minangkabau.

Looking at this photo, I am surprised at the “Greek” features of the representatives of the Kalash people. Immediately I recall the story about the wedding in Susa that took place in 324 BC in Persia. It lasted for 5 days in a row, Alexander himself got married, and he married his commanders. Immediately after the death of Alexander, all these Macedonians were quick to divorce their wives. I did not manage to divorce only Alexander himself and his closest associate Hephaestion, who died before the king himself.

Kalash people are disappearing, their number is becoming less and less. This is due to the area of ​​their residence high in the mountains of the Southern Hindu Kush, where it is generally very difficult to survive. Previously, they somehow survived there, of course ... But in the 21st century Islam became very militant, especially "mountain" Islam, it was always different from "flatland". And Kalash (oh, a miracle!) Is perhaps the only non-Islamized people of the Hindu Kush! Fundamental Islamists are constantly threatening Kalash. And nowadays, even at the household level, it has become almost impossible for a non-Muslim to survive and feed a family in those places.

Kalash is considered the indigenous aborigines of the mountains. The peoples around them erect a formation of Kalash to the soldiers of Alexander the Great. Kalash themselves consider crows to be their ancestors and feed them only with their left hand. Kalash kept pagan ideas about the world and their original pagan religion. For Kalash mountains and numerous pagan gods are sacred. They offer sacrifices to these gods — cows, horses, goats, sheep. Their altars are made of mozhevelovy wood and are located on pastures considered sacred.

In general, all these customs of them look so alien to the local, dominant Islamic culture, that I wonder how these Kalash have lived to the present day!

If it were not for the Soviet and then the American invasion of Afghanistan, then perhaps the local Islam would have remained more "peaceful"? Who knows ... In the meantime, the young Kalash are forced to lose their originality and convert to Islam in order to survive and continue the race.

The government of Pakistan is now taking a series of measures aimed at the physical protection of Kalash. This concern is caused primarily by international attention to the situation of such an unusual people and the development of tourism. At the end of the 20th century, even roads were laid to the places of traditional settlement by Kalash. Inquisitive people from all over the world are going to look at Kalash. Theories about their supposedly “Aryan” and “Nordic” origins and similar speculations of cabinet scholars have spread. In my opinion all this is nonsense.

Kalash is certainly a distinctive people, and among them are clearly distinguished representatives of the "Macedonian" type of appearance. But this is still the most common Mediterranean type of appearance. It is not necessary for such a “Mediterranean” to be a descendant of an ancient Macedonian, much less be a mythical Aryan and a Nordic! There were always enough people in the mountains with light skin and eyes.

The world is diverse, people are intertwined in it in the most bizarre way ... But there is always a sound and simple explanation for any, even the most mysterious and mysterious phenomena.
