There is no wonder that AI is going to rule us in the future. Human nature has always been towards embracing the new technologies that we invent. But at the same time we also don't know to what extent these technologies should be used. But I think that is also part of the plan and order of nature where some people exploit the technology or use it for wrong things. We cannot prevent that from happening. 20 years back nobody would have imagined that everyone would have a smartphone with them that can act like a computer with so many capabilities.
I have started to imagine the future of AI too where in about 50 years, every individual will have their own personal AI bot helping them remember things and become their personal assistant. They would become smart enough where they keep learning throughout life and can also become the best advisors for the individuals. This can happen after 50 years. Similar to how everyone is holding a mobile phone in their hand, they would also have their fancy AI with them that interacts and understands the AI of others and exchange thoughts. People might start talking more to AI than to real people. These are some of the thoughts that keep coming to my mind.
With what we have today, I think that is already possible so after 50 years it can become very common probably. We have to also understand that when AI is doing something, we may not be doing that and it can make us lazy. There is also a risk that humans can slowly forget their skills after a huge dependency is created on AI. Already many parts of our work are being done by computers and other automation tools and humans are losing their health and capacity to do work. The calculator is one such example that made us forget counting. The washing machine takes care of washing our clothes and we don't do that manually anymore. Though these technologies are all aiding humans and helping them out, they are also making us lazy. If they are unavailable one day, it becomes tough for us to do any work on a specific day.
I wouldn't completely say that AI is a technology that is a burden for us because there are so many things that AI can do that cannot be achieved with our human brains. We don't have such computational power and it can take years and decades to arrive at some results if we have to do things with our human brains. In that way, we indeed have to make use of this technology and embrace it without blaming the technology but at the same time, we have to also understand the limits. We shouldn't be using this for almost everything. Wherever our normal intelligence can be used, it should be used instead of AI.
AI can also be used as a tool for humans to learn from it. For example, with the help of AI, someone can learn to play chess. They are very strong in playing games and we can also learn a few things that can be hard for humans to learn directly. With proper hardware integration done, AI can be used in the future as a human companion like how we see in the movie Bicentennial Man which is the best reference for this topic.
