When it was first published in 1949, George Orwell's dystopian novel "1984" was met with condemnation by many as a frightening vision of the future. Fast forward 54 years and we're still living in a world that bears some resemblance to the one described in "1984." In fact, more than ever, people feel like they are under surveillance and have little control over their lives.I will try to explore how 1984 has held up over time and why it is such an important book for understanding today's society.

1984 does a great job of reflecting the way that today's society is. For example, the way that people are monitored and tracked is something that we see happening in today's world. The way that people are treated as if they are nothing is also something that we see on a daily basis. 1984 does a great job of illustrating the dangers of a dictatorship and its effects on it's people. For example, the way that people are controlled and their free speech is stopped is something that we see happening in today's society and is rising by the day. And last but not least how information is controlled and published in a way to keep the masses in check, according to the elites will.

If you are considering picking up a book to read and haven't gotten to this one yet, go ahead and read it. 1984 put's things into perspective in a really interesting way.
