Recently, one of the most popular tourist destinations has been the city of Porto, located in the north of Portugal. Situated at the confluence of the Douro River and the Atlantic Ocean, the city continues to impress visitors with its authentic architecture, cuisine, local traditions, and culture. Due to the warmth and hospitality of the local residents and the relatively low hotel prices, Porto is an ideal destination for a weekend getaway.

The city is conveniently connected to most of Europe through its airport. Few people know that this is where the genius of Gustav Eiffel, the world-famous architect, first showcased his talent. Following his design, an elegant arch bridge was constructed, connecting the two steep banks of the Douro River. Thanks to its speedy construction, Eiffel gained worldwide fame, and the innovative techniques used in its construction formed the foundation for his most iconic projects: the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower.

The most famous symbol of Porto is the Ponte D. Luis I, a two-tier bridge designed by Eiffel's pupil, Theophilus Seyrig. This elegant structure impresses with its simplicity and grace, and from its upper level, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the city and the Douro River, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean.

Visitors can walk along both levels of the bridge and capture stunning photos. If they follow the lower level in the opposite direction from Porto, they can reach the river embankment where wine cellars from famous port wine producers are located and numerous restaurants offer tastings of their divine nectar.

Alternatively, if they continue along the upper level where the light metro runs, they can climb even higher to the Serra do Pilar, where they can see an even wider panorama of the city from above.

Not far from the bridge, there is a funicular that was built a few years ago to attract tourists. This funicular allows you to descend to the embankment and board a cruise ship that travels up the river.
