We all use search engines a lot, right? They are super helpful for finding stuff, learning new things, and solving problems. But did you know that most of the big search engines are not really fair? They are run by one company that has all the power to choose what to show us, how to order them, and what to do with our data. As an alternative, a group of talented people created Presearch, a project that aims to challenge this status quo by creating a decentralized, community-driven, and transparent search engine that respects user privacy and rewards users with its own cryptocurrency, PRE. 

How Presearch Works

Presearch is not a single search engine, but rather a platform that allows users to choose from different search providers, such as Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Wikipedia, and more. Users can also create their own custom search engines by combining different sources and filters. Presearch acts as a gateway that connects users to their preferred search engines, while providing additional features and benefits.

One of the main features of Presearch is that it rewards users with PRE tokens for using the search engine. Note that running a node on a cloud service like VPS will not be profitable considering the current token value as of February 2024, which is around $0.02 cents. To make running the node on a cloud service viable, the token price should be valued at around $0.10 or higher. Given the low token price, it may be more practical to save the monthly fee for cloud hosting, which typically ranges from 3 to 5 dollars, and instead install and run the node in your computer.

The Future of Presearch

For what we can say, Presearch is a project that is still in its early stages of development, but it has already achieved some impressive milestones and has a promising future ahead. Some of the achievements and plans of Presearch are:

• Presearch has over 2 million registered users and over 1.5 million daily searches, making it one of the most popular decentralized applications on the blockchain.
• Presearch has over 100 search providers available on the platform, covering a wide range of topics and categories, such as news, social media, e-commerce, education, and more.
• Presearch has launched its own decentralized index, called Dsearch, which is powered by the Presearch nodes (servers) and aims to provide fast, relevant, and unbiased search results.
• Presearch has partnered with several projects and organizations, such as Brave, CoinGecko, CoinMarketCap, and more, to integrate their services and offer more value to the users.
• Presearch has a roadmap that includes developing a mobile app, a browser extension, a keyword staking system for advertising, and more features and improvements.

Sustainability of the Project

For now, we are concerned about the inflationary effect of minting more tokens and its impact on the price and sustainability of the project. The total supply of PRE was 250 million in 2018. By 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, the total supply had increased to 500 million, and in 2024, it reached 750 million.

We hope that the total supply won't increase further to maintain the stability of the reward system. We believe that additional minting could potentially drive the price down and jeopardize the project's sustainability. Maybe the Presearch team should explore alternative methods to enhance the token's value instead of resorting to minting more tokens.

We believe that increasing the total supply of PRE tokens could reduce the scarcity and the demand of the token, which could lower its value in the market. We also think that there are other factors that could influence the price of PRE, such as the growth of the user base*, the quality of the search engine, the innovation of the platform, and the adoption of the token by other projects and services.

* which has not been presented in Weekly news and updates videos from the Presearch team, the last update we had was around 4.3 million of registered users, not active users.

We think that the PRE team has a vision to create a decentralized, community-driven, and transparent search engine that respects user privacy and rewards user participation. We think that this vision is valuable and has the potential to attract more users and supporters to the platform. 

These developments could increase the utility and usability of the PRE token, which could increase its demand and its value. I also think that the PRE team could implement some mechanisms to balance the token supply and demand, such as burning tokens, reducing the emission rate, or increasing the reward rate for staking and running nodes.
