Ponowne spotkanie z "palcami umarlaka" - Xylaria polymorpha
About a year ago at this time of year I spotted a stand of a mushroom called Dead Fingers in the forest. I decided to find it again today and check if the mushroom has reappeared, if there are any signs of this species at all.
Mniej więcej rok temu o tej samej porze roku namierzyłem w lesie stanowisko grzyba zwanego Palce umarlaka. Postanowiłem dzisiaj ponownie odszukać to miejsce i sprawdzić, czy grzyb pojawił się ponownie, czy w ogóle są jakieś ślady życia tego gatunku.
I was not disappointed, the mushroom appeared in the same place, and there was much more of it than last year and it looked very healthy and robust. I did not hesitate and took a small photo session of it while it is still in good shape.
Nie zawiodłem się, grzyb pojawił się w tym samym miejscu, i było go znacznie więcej niż w zeszłym roku i wyglądał bardzo dorodnie i zdrowo. Nie zastanawiałem się długo i zrobiłem mu małą sesję zdjęciową, póki jeszcze jest w niezłej formie.
"Dead Man's Fingers", or scientifically, Clubmoss is a quite popular mushroom, but due to its coloring it is difficult to spot in the forest.
"Palce umarlaka" czyli naukowo Próchnilec maczugowaty jest grzybem dosyć popularnym, ale ze względu na swoją kolorystykę trudny jest do wypatrzenia w lesie.
It is also quite delicate. Heavy rains or too much sun can distort or destroy it. Animals are not interested in this type of mushroom - it is inedible.
Jest również dość delikatny. Ulewne deszcze, czy zbytnie nasłonecznienie mogą go zniekształcić lub zniszczyć. Zwierzęta nie są zainteresowany tym gatunkiem grzyba - jest niejadalny.
The name of the fungus "husk" is not accidental, because this fungus causes wood to rot. It likes damp places, often growing from pieces of wood buried in the ground. Then it looks like the fingers of a dead person, or the fingers of a corpse.
Nazwa grzyba "próchnilec" nie jest przypadkowa, ponieważ grzyb ten powoduje próchnicę drewna. Lubi miejsca wilgotne, często wyrasta z zagrzebanych w ziemi kawałkach drewna. Wygląda wtedy jak palce umarlaka, czy palce nieboszczyka.
I will check it in a few weeks, I wonder if the population will increase and if it will survive the hot August.
Zajrzę do niego za kilka tygodni, jestem ciekaw czy populacja się powiększy, czy przetrwa upalny sierpień.
