The titmouse is not one species of bird - we have 6 species of them in Europe. In Poland, there is blue tit, red tit, crested tit, black tit, poor tit, and probably the most popular and most often seen tit - Great Tit (Parus major)

Great Tit is a traveler. They camp in different places, generally where there is the most food. I myself feed them with delicacies in the fall and winter season.

Sikorka to podróżnik. Koczują w różnych miejscach, generalnie tam, gdzie jest najwięcej pokarmu. Sam zresztą je dokarmiam frykasami w sezonie jesienno-zimowym.

Of course, I know that it is completely unnecessary, because these resourceful birds will survive the worst of frosts, and they never lack food. However, it gives me great joy, the more that I do not bring them just anything.

Oczywiście wiem, że to zupełnie zbyteczne, bo te zaradne ptaki przetrwają najgorsze mrozy, a pożywienia im nigdy nie braknie. Sprawia mi to jednak dużą radość, tym bardziej, że nie przynoszę im byle czego.

The Great Tit I visit generally prefer grains. Sunflower seeds, maybe a pumpkin seed, but they like walnuts the most. Birds have some intuition, because walnuts are actually the best food for them. Rich in fats, vitamins and many mineral salts.

Sikorki które odwiedzam generalnie preferują ziarna. Słonecznik, może być ziarno dyni, ale najbardziej lubią włoskie orzechy. Ptaki mają jakąś intuicję, bo włoskie orzechy to rzeczywiście najlepszy dla nich pokarm. Zasobny w tłuszcze witaminy i wiele soli mineralnych.

They are not very trusting, but their behavior amuses me. As soon as I show up near my favorite bench, they almost want to sit on me, you know what they mean - a guy came with a nice meal. But as soon as they spill the seeds on the bench, they act like thieves. They shyly fly over to the food, steal - they think so, and fly away in no time. It is quite fun.

Nie są zbyt ufne, ale ich zachowanie mnie bawi. Gdy tylko pojawiam się w okolicy mojej ulubionej ławki, to prawie chcą na mnie usiąść, wiadomo o co im chodzi - przyszedł koleś z niezłym jedzonkiem. Ale gdy tylko wysypie ziarna na ławkę, zachowują się jak złodziejaszki. Nieśmiało podlatują do jedzenia, kradną - tak im się chyba wydaje, i błyskawicznie odlatują. Jest to całkiem zabawne.

There is a hierarchy among them, because I can see it in the structure of individuals. When they are almost in a line on a nearby branch, at the very front there are older and much larger specimens, and finally small ones. I perversely call them "chicory" because they are very skittish and run away for any reason.

Istnieje u nich hierarchia, bo widzę to po budowie osobników. Gdy ustawiają się niemalże w kolejce na pobliskiej gałęzi, na samym przodzie siedzą osobniki starsze i znacznie większe, a no końcu małe. Nazywam je przewrotnie "cykorki", bo są bardzo płochliwe i uciekają z byle powodu.

Of course, titmouse is not vegetarian. These very fond little birds with black heads and white cheeks, associated with happiness and wealth, also have a second face.

Sikorki oczywiście nie są wegetarianami. Te darzone ogromną sympatią małe ptaszki, z czarnymi głowami, białymi policzkami, kojarzone ze szczęściem oraz bogactwem mają tez swoje drugie oblicze.

They love lard meat, and sometimes it feels like a little version of a magpie that cracks an old bone for scraps of meat. So the tit will not despise a piece of carrion, where it will find tallow, liver, insect larvae hatching in rotten meat. Well, that's their nature, they are looking for the most valuable food, and my nuts are probably a dessert for them 😉

Uwielbiają słoninę mięso, czasami odnosi się wrażenie, że to mała wersja sroki, która łupie stara kość w poszukiwaniu resztek mięsa. Tak więc sikorka nie pogardzi kawałkiem padliny, gdzie znajdzie łój, wątrobę, larwy owadów wylęgające się w zgniłym mięsie. Cóż, taka jest ich natura, szukają najbardziej wartościowego pożywienia, a moje orzechy to jest dla nich chyba deser 😉
