Fascinating mushroom shapes - Stereum hirsutum

    Stereum hirsutum is an annual fungus, it is a parasite that damages living trees. The thickness is about 2 mm, the size a few cm. The shape of the fruiting body is wavy, a bit like a shelf, roof tiles. The color of the top is yellow-ocher, sometimes gray-brown, whitish hairy, zoned. It has delicate white hair. The young mushroom is bright orange or yellow in color. The underside of the mushroom is smooth light brown.

    Leg. The fungus is laterally attached to the substrate. The flesh absent, the fungus is laterally attached to the substrate.

    Occurrence. It is very common in Poland and Europe. It occurs on all continents, except Antarctica, grows all year round on dead branches, trunks of deciduous trees, but also on living trees, most often in groups. It can rarely be found on conifers. Application - inedible mushroom.
