Hi! As you might not noticed, last times an almost dead coin called musicoin has made a move from the original blockchain to a ERC20 token and by now all the signs point as it will continue dying. I'll explain myself as best as I know.
This coin was created by Isaac Mao that started it and was active for some time. It reached good prices, I remember it being at 700 sats and more. The first time I got there I thought that this coin has the same problem as many others: no real use. When asked, the response from Isaac was always "we are the first one and with a working product" (a product that doesn't need the coin at all). The coin was created to be used as tips and rewards for musicians that put our music there...It worked more or less good for some time and the promises from Isaac to evolve to new forms like "prove of sharism" to avoid the ice age bomb ethereum problem that would let the music blockchain unusable. And that seems good news and depsite the coin value keeps going down during this time, the idea seems great and just expecting this to be made beacause it seems by that time, that maybe the step to PoSh could take off musicoin from the death spiral it was.
But then things got weird. Instead of working on PoSh, Isaac started to talk about Volareo, a speaker connected to the musicoin blockchain and.... Well, doesn't matter, the fact is that the speaker didn't arrive and didn't give any value to the musicoin echosystem.
After that time and with no volareo at all, Isaac vanished and nothing more at some pint I thought it was an exit scam, I do not now. The chains keeps working more or less. So let the figure of Isaac here for a moment and let's go to the musicians part.
Then there was a second point that harms not only musicoin but all the music blockchains and it was the fake plays that some musicians traded in different webs and that were pointed to take profits from the blockchain in a "not fair at all" way. Basically they started to change plays one to other, you click on my songs, I click on yours and we take profits even if there we don't like the music or we don't hear to it. During a time I was tracking some musicians and discovered that there was a pull of people cheating to get more views and money in this way. I think the idea of music blockchains is not to drain it in paralell ways but to give creators a fair reward; but since they cheated, the rest of the musicians lost the chance to be discovered because they fell out of the lists fast and was impossible to find them. So we have three types of musician in the musicoin echosystem: the ones that had a pull of listeners and work hard in promoting music, the ones that cheated and the ones that didn't had the promotion capacities and did not cheat the system and that get buried on the others.
Then we have a third item releated with the first one. As the time goes on, musicoin keeps exactly as the first day, meanig a not so cute web, some play errors... and during this period lots of other music blockchains were born and unfortunatelly the design was better, they worked better, were more responsive to users and there was no "ghost developers". So musicoin didn't stop falling.
At some point it get kicked out from bittrex and there were no exchangers to trade it because there was really nothing to trade. After that it was the cryptopua hack and step by step there was only one place to trade musicoin, the Dove wallet. The coin was almost dead.
Slowly, some musicoin users started to take protagonism in the telegram channel while Isaac was still ghosting to all of us. They came with the idea that a swap would save the coin. And the swap was planned. At this point you can think that this was an smart move and maybe it was, but there were some problems.
Some musicians in the channel pointend the problem that making a swap with no info to all the community was a huge mistake. Also the fact that it was mandatory to take the coins to Dove wallet to take part on the swap. The arguments pro this move were some kind of solid and I thought that maybe it was the only way according to what it was said to us by the "new team". Maybe the dove wallet was the unique way to do the swap, I disagree but I will not discuss about. But doing all the process without informing everyone is the key problem. During the time before the swap it was said dozens of times that the "new team" did not have access to a mailing list because they were part of the community and not the original developers.
One could think "ok, Isaac is ghosting and there's no way to reach him so maybe they cannot make a proper announcement with mailing and all due movements in order to stay fair" and more or less it's what I thought at that moment, "ok, let's support this 'cause it seems that this new team has good intentions".
The telegram channel kept moving and before the swap when there was still time to advise all the holders (at least the ones with the coins in the official web) the "new team" kept saying that they were not able to do the mailing and that the money of the uninformed ones was going to the team for development or whatever. Some of us continued saying it was unfair and seems like a robbery or a scam move and finally there was some kind of agreement that once the swap finishes, a second swap would be made in order to return coins to the legit owners. It seems a little more fair that doing nothing and keeping the other people money.
Let's stop a moment. Do you remember that the "new team" argued that they can't access to the official web database and that was the reason to proceed without informing musicians? So TADA! Here comes the funny part. Isaac was there all the time and participated actively in the swap! Yes, as you read. I hear your laughs from home. So the creator and first developer of musicoin was there! Then, why it was so impossible to do a mailing to, at least, musicians? There's no reason at all. Musicians with music in this platform have received some mails during this time, so it's possible to do that.
So we have a forced swap of a dead coin with a ghost developer that only appears at the end of a process that seems more a scam that a fair movement.
At this point I'm not sure if this coin and echosystem will remain or will finally die. Right now the swap is done and some people are complaining that the fees of Dove wallet to move the coins are very very high. I think it's normal because the "new team" has gifted Dove wallet with the absolute power to do whatever they want and they are doing it. Here someone could say to me that is an ETH fees issue. This may be true, and if it's there's another nail in the coffin. Now some people is waiting for the second swap but, as someone said in the telegram channel, the swap will be almost impossible 'cause maybe you have 10000 MUSIC and the fees to swap them will cost 30000, 40000 or maybe one million. So the final result is exactly the one that seems the "new team" and maybe also Isaac were seeking from the very beginning: take the other people's money and run. I'm not saying they have made it, in fact I'm pretty sure that they didn't want it, but the result is the same as it was, some of us have been robbed in front of our eyes.
Besides of this, the new team have some problems that maybe can avoid musicoin to be live again. First of all the manners, in the channel we have seen people that is part of the core team asking for money (as a manner of charity) and keeping their positions in the board. I'm sorry about the personal situation of persons, but it's very grose to ask for money using a privilege position in a public enterprise. This adding that this man appeared one day saying he could get millions of people in musicoin and blah blah blah... So another time things smells like teen scam. Maybe they are not, but seems. I think it got detected and no one gives him nothing, but he is still onboard! Besides of this man, in the new team there are people working hard and trying to do right things ( and it must be said very kind ones) and then there are some bully ones that if you make some kind of criticism will insult you in a sorted different ways. And know what? I think in the new team there also that kind of cheaters I told you before (the ones that change plays one to other to get monetary profit
So as I see right now, the best movement is to take your music out of musicoin and look for other blockchains that doesn't have rude people or scammers in the team. And it's a real fucking shit 'cause I'm in this adventure from before it was launched, I've mined, I've made promo... Well, I was a believer and now I'm very disapointed. As I read I think there's a second way to proceed but I'm not sure if it's as unfair as the lasts musicoins movements have been or not. I'm keeping it for me and if it goes mature I'll tell you. It goes thru the path of real decentralization, but this will be the subject of another post if it's some time.
Cheers and keep the music alive!
