ANIMA: the AR(t) Metaverse is here - and it's damn cool!

What? An enthusiastic, positive, click-bait title? I must be drunk, high on something or having a stroke, right?

Seriously, this might sound like a sponsored content, but it's not really; it's just a little preview with a deeper article coming later.

Of course I invested in this nifty (see what I did here) thing, but that's quite obvious since I strongly believe in projects like these where real time 3D, Augmented Reality and NFT's blend perfectly and blur the border of real and virtual with a profound paradigm shift. I honestly think this is a game changer on sooo many levels that there's no need to explain why (unless you're the "no way, just gimme another bored ape shit instead" type of guy, in that case: go away, nothing to see here.)

Mirror

The project is named Mirror and it's a collaboration between studio Anima and artist Demsky. Have a look yourselves and tell me you don't feel that instant-buy itch under your skin! It's a damn nice approach to an Augmented Reality Artistic Metaverse: think of a (kinda) Pokemon Go with NFT's, but for grown-ups with good taste in visual arts and built upon some intriguing concepts.

Mirrors everywhere!

The huge potential here is the exploration factor: take your Mirror around the world at specific coordinates and it will evolve and become rarer. But that's just the beginning (PHASE MN:01) and according to the website: "Once the community has activated enough coordinates, PHASE MN:02 will be unlocked, a collective digital creation, followed by PHASE MN:03, a final set of artifacts for the explorers." Don't know about you, but that's enough to foresee an awesome pattern to me.

Each one of the 8,888 Mirrors has an unique set of traits that determine its shape, spectrum and other variables and that's just the starting point before their "evolution by exploration" kicks in (you can read a full explanation here if you need all the juicy details). They are already a thing of pure beauty if you ask me, and I'm thrilled about what those might become in the (hopefully not so distant) future. Oh, and these babies are minted as ERC-721 on the Polygon blockchain, so that means close to zero gas fees for secondary market. Nice move.

The project is still in its infancy, but it ticks all the right boxes and the potential is there to be perceived. You need an iPhone to enjoy the full experience for now, with an Android version on the roadmap. That's not necessarily a bad thing (unless you're one of those Apple haters and in that case, again: go away, nothing to see here) given both Apple hardware and software are pretty solid, especially when it comes to manage advanced 3D AR content. To quote myself, "the best of possible worlds would be a full-decentralized IPFS-hosted WebXR PWA anyway". One day, not that far away, we're gonna get there. But that's another story (and a general consideration anyway).

For now, we can live with a custom app running on an iPhone if the content is that good. And oh, it is indeed!
