Compared to Chinese Models: ChatGPT Fails to Build Websites

A joint experiment by Maria Sukhareva and Olga Shatlin to build and launch a complete AI-powered website in a single day revealed ChatGPT's limited capabilities in this area, despite the success of its Chinese competitors, according to a report in the AI Realist newsletter.
The experiment was subject to a set of strict conditions: the final product, a complete and functional website, had to be delivered within one day using only one AI tool, without any external intervention.
Several AI tools underwent this test, most notably ChatGPT, Cloud, and Gemini from the US, and the open-source MiniMax and Kimik2 models from China.
The test revealed weaknesses in each model as they attempted to generate and publish websites without external intervention. Cloud, for example, while capable of building a simple HTML website, was unable to generate any images.

The Gemini website, despite its modern design, lacked interactive elements (Getty). In the Gemini building test... The tool managed to produce a website that resembled a single, large image with few interactive elements, despite the site's overall elegant design.
Similarly, ChatGBT generated a website lacking interactive components, making it appear superficial and resembling a single page in an encyclopedia. Consequently, it cannot be used independently without modification.
However, the situation differed with open-source models from China. Both Chemi2 and MiniMax were able to produce large, functional websites that included interactive images and even data collection components.
The newsletter indicates that this experience does not mean ChatGBT is incapable of generating complete websites, but it does require additional work and programming skills to ultimately produce a modern and effective site usable by clients.
