Anons first Crypto. Post #19
I've been investigating cryptocurrency and the decentralized web since the start of May 2020. This blog is an avenue of documentation and expression of my experience.
I will be taking a look at the functionality of the wallet plus the actual swap from ERC token to Ghost coin as well as detailing the events post wallet launch. I wrote a post on the day Ghost Wallet launched detailing what had happened since the launch of Ghosts network, check it out here.
Ghost wallet is currently in release 2.0.6, so far we have seen 2 updates since launch, first was launch day stuff which is to be expected with these projects and another today, 4/7/20. Today's update is addressing user concerns over having to leave their desktop wallet open in order to stake, this is understandable from a security and cost of running their equipment point of view and the team worked quickly to implement cold staking. With this update users are able utilize virtual private servers either by building their own or renting servers ran by others. This also opens up the possibility of staking pools! Their official Medium post regarding the update is here
I've played around with the wallet, created a few test addresses to see how the desktop wallet goes switching between them with ease, I'll keep my balance/address to private this is a privacy coin after all however I can confirm hot staking has worked perfectly for me, I'll be doing a comparison between my experience hot and cold staking with Ghost in a few days. The stats work as you would expect and seem pretty accurate in giving you a fluctuating time frame for your next stake reward. Currently you're only able to stake publicly visible ghost however if you're concerned about it being linked to your ETH wallet, purchase ERC tokens and utilize the swap function pictured bellow. I wasn't able to find any connection to my ETH wallet from the swap contract, if you know a way of identifying via the swap contract please drop a comment bellow! I'd be very gratful.
Ghost Wallet Download + Swap Contract
I've currently completed a few ERC -> MainNet swaps, each have been pretty seamless. The swap on launch day took its sweet time, it was pretty nerve racking to be honest but luckily after a while but after more people swapped over and it started moving things along once there were confirmations happening on the blockchain. Since I've had no issues and each swap has been completed in less then 2 minutes so thats sweet.
GhostWallet.IO will need to connect to a wallet to complete the swap, any web3 wallet will do the trick, MetaMask/TrustWallet/BraveCryptoWallet will all work fine! Just make sure you allow popups or notifications as it will need 2 separate confirmations for the contract to complete itself.
Just keep clicking through when the window pops up, brave works brilliantly! I'm not sure you would be here if you weren't already using brave but if not here is my affiliate link! Go on get paid to browse.

Convert or send Ghost to your private balance
Receive either public or private Ghost with your address/QR code + links to the explorer
Overall I think its a snazzy little wallet, very pleased with it so far, especially the stake rewards! Quite happy to have my Ghost tucked away there until the real world use cases start flowing! That or just hodl forever, we'll see. There's been some major happenings on the real world use case side of things too, I was going to briefly write about them here but it just went on and on so I've split them into a separate post! I'll be posting that soon with my post regarding the guide to cold staking! As always, thanks for checking out my posts! I'll leave you with some sweet merch I saw floating around, I may or may not be trying to source one after posting this, watch this space.
