Donald Trump & Bitcoin

Donald Trump & Bitcoin

By FeFeInformation | American Politics | 11 Sep 2024

During his first presidency Donald Trump harshly criticized cryptocurrencies, saying they were not money, too volatile and “an imminent catastrophe”. In 2019 he defined the dollar as the strongest currency in the world, hinting at no need for other types of money.

In five years the tycoon changed his mind and on July 27, 2024 he was invited as headliner to a Bitcoin conference in Nashville, TN. On the stage he promised to make the United States the Crypto capital of the world and to invest a large amount of government money in Bitcoin. He also promised he would fire the head of the SEC nominated by Joe Biden, Gary Genser, who made policies apparently against digital currencies, making millions of American crypto investors happy. Besides that, Trump allowed payments in cryptos to fundraise his campaign. “Bitcoin is the steel industry of 100 years ago, a revolution”, that is how the Republican candidate defined the digital coin.

After Trump’s speech the Bitcoin price reached $62.390 and closed the next Monday at the peak of $64.098.

On the other side, Kamala has not shown yet her views about the sector, but we also know she needs the help of Big Tech and the Silicon Valley to have more chances to win this election. Her team told the Financial Times that the Democratic party is not anti-business but for responsible business, trying to be more appealing.

Will Trump maintain his words?

If Trump wins will Bitcoin reach a new historic high?
