Album Review - "Game Over" by TrippyB3ats

Electronic musician TrippyB3ats returned with her third full-length album, Game Over, on September 2nd, 2022! This one is comprised of 11 brand new tracks, and I am back to rate them each on a scale of 10, and then give you an overall score for the album.

Without further ado, here is the song by song breakdown for Game Over:

1. The Princess Owns This Castle - 8/10

For the first time since Hieratic Passe we finally get a good opening track! This one has a great beginning that builds into a pretty solid and chill beat. Listen for yourself here!

2. Dark Forest Path - 8/10

This track is brooding and has a solid beat to it. It's well titled for the mood it evokes. It also has a great trap beat with some cool snares. Listen for yourself here!

3. Game Over is Overrated - 7/10

Pretty funny title for a track here. It's got some interesting sounds that turn into a decent song but overall, it's a bit too jarring to be mainstream. Listen for yourself here!

4. Can't Logout - 6/10

There's a nice beat here but the track has a weird and meandering melody on top of it that is mostly just distracting. Listen for yourself here!

5. Play Me Like A JRPG - 7/10

I love the title of this one, it's really funny. The track is decent sounding but doesn't go far enough and gets kind of repetitive. Listen for yourself here!

6. Wandering Metroidvania - 7/10

Not a great start to the song but it turns into a catchy dark beat. Listen for yourself here!

7. Don't Make Me Isekai You - 8/10

Another fantastic title! It has a great start with a drawn out but fantastic build up. It turns into a darkly searching beat. Listen for yourself here!

8. Cancel Me Harder Daddy - 6/10

Very odd way to start a song, but also kind of fun. It's also a bit chaotic and could be too weird to some listeners. Listen for yourself here!

9. Master Chief Body Pillow - 7/10

Wow, that certainly is a title to a song! This one is also very weird, but it has a better beat than the last track. Listen for yourself here!

10. Maximum Reverie - 8/10

Chaotic but still has structure to it. Feels kind of Donkey Kong-esque in a way. I actually like this one a lot. Listen for yourself here!

11. This Is The E.N.D. - 9/10

Probably the standout track from this album, and funny enough it's also the last track on the album. It has a dark but tight beat throughout. Listen for yourself here!

Overall, I would give this album a 7.4/10. It's a much more solid release than either of the last two albums, Homogenesis and War Crimes. The only real standout was This Is The E.N.D. but that's not to say the others weren't great as well. The song titles for this one are a lot more humorous and meme-able, so I could see this album being more popular than the other releases just based on the song names.

You can listen to the full album on Spotify, YouTube, Tidal, Deezer, and Napster! You can also find it on Web3 platforms such as Audius, Mousai, and even as limited edition NFTs on OpenSea!
