Electronic musician TrippyB3ats quickly returned after their second EP, Wisewoman, with their third EP titled Afterlife on May 25th, 2022. This one is comprised of 4 new tracks this time, and I'm back to rate them each on a scale of 10, and then give you an overall score for the album.
Without further ado, here is the song by song breakdown for Afterlife:
1. Roused - 6/10
Not the most impressive start to a new release. Roused has some interesting sound design but leaves the listener ultimately unsatisfied. Listen for yourself here!
2. Afterlife - 8/10
The title track is definitely one of the better songs from TrippyB3ats' early discography, and it is certainly the most interesting track from this release. Listen for yourself here!
3. Reserves Suspended - 7/10
This one works as some pretty solid background music but never really takes center stage itself. I could see it working for like a background track in a YouTube video or even possibly a movie, but it's not much for in depth listening. Listen for yourself here!
4. Issue Point - 6/10
This one isn't bad, but it does meander a lot. It's not much of a closer to an EP release. Listen for yourself here!
Overall, I would give this EP a 6.8/10, which is a slightly higher score than Wisewoman got. It's definitely a slightly more solid release but for a 4-track EP, it still has a lot of filler on it. I think a stronger EP could have been made from combining the two and releasing them as one.
