Losses of $ 4.52 billion from cryptocurrency scams in 2019
The Ponzi Pyramid on the PlusToken cost investors about $ 3 billion last year.
Cryptocurrency losses totaled $ 4.52 billion in 2019, according to a Reuters report by Cipher Trace.
Last year's losses were nearly 160% higher than $ 1.74 billion in 2018.
Abuses and burglaries were five times higher in 2019, with hacker attacks and thefts down 66%, according to the report.
Two serious incidents are responsible for the sharp rise in user and investor losses, CipherTrace said. Users and customers lost about $ 3 billion in "Ponzi Pyramid" on the PlusToken exchange. The other serious case was the nearly $ 135 million that customers lost from the Canadian QuadrigaCX exchange after the unexpected death of its co-founder.
