My last post regarding Hivemapper earnings was back in December 16, 2023 and a lot has changed for me since then. The dashcam I was waiting for, did eventually ship in January so I onboarded that driver (Driver #2) I had lined up, with their first payout being January 4, 2024. Back in March 2024, I then decided to give up my personal dashcam to a driver (Driver #3) that wanted to be part of my fleet, so I now have a total of 3 fleet drivers. I figured I'd get much more from a fleet driver that drives for work than what I would get driving casually.
Another update since then is my order of 5 HDC cameras December 31, 2023 to expand my fleet. I was expected to receive my order in May 2024, but the shipping/manufacturing of HDC has been continuously delayed to the point where a new dashcam model has been announced and expected to ship late Q3 2024. They've decided to let buyers upgrade their cam orders to the new model which is what I did, so I won't be expecting my order until late September 2024, but I'm going to guess it'll be even longer than that. The new model named the "Bee" has many features that will improve user experience and performance, such as passive image uploads that start without user intervention. Hivemapper is now 100% passive to me as I no longer map personally, although I will start again when that new batch of orders comes in, which will then still be 100% passive because of the new features in the upcoming "Bee" dashcam.
I've decided for this post, I'll post all my HONEY earnings starting from when I gave my personal dashcam away the week of March 21, 2024.
I've since used those earnings to buy 2 DIMO Macarons which brings me to one DIMO Autopi, 2 DIMO Macarons, and 1 DIMO software connection. I'll possibly do monthly earnings reports for DIMO in the future.
Some notes about my drivers:
Driver #1's earnings have been quite consistent hovering around 50-100 HONEY/week depending on driving habits as this is a casual driver. Driver #2 had an average of 150 honey/week, but they started having technical issues where they could not upload the collected images. Around the same time, Driver #1's camera stopped working. This happened around the last week of April. So I took driver #2's camera and gave it to Driver #1, and I submitted a RMA request to hopefully get the broken camera replaced. So starting the week of May 2, 2024, earnings are from Driver #1 and Driver #3. This issue caused a lower potential of May earnings and a large decrease of June earnings.
Driver #3 has reduced earnings of around 50% either because of less driving, recent HIP implementations (Hivermapper Improvement Protocol), or a combination of both. Either way, I still find it beneficial that they have my camera and are mapping for me
The decrease in earnings for Driver #3 brings up the conversation about the future of Hivemapper and earning from personal use/fleets because this is an issue that a lot of people have had. The discord community has been very vocal about their reduced earnings. This had made me think about the type of people that I will accept into my fleet as I want people who are patient and have a long term vision with earnings. If the price of the token drops to $0.01 or below today, will you still keep driving? What if the total HONEY tokens you get per week is reduced, bar any technical issues? If yes, then I want you in my fleet.
