The Hessdalen Lights: Norway’s Boreal Mystery

By Aura516 | Acknowledge_facts | 30 Jun 2025

For over 40 years, a remote Norwegian valley has been the stage for one of the most well-documented yet unexplained light phenomena on Earth.

The Hessdalen lights appear both by day and by night, and seem to float through and above the valley. Floating orbs of light, ranging from football-sized to car-sized, hovering above the valley. The colors are white, yellow, or blue (sometimes pulsing or splitting). The duration of the phenomenon may be a few seconds to well over an hour.

The lights were observed 15–20 times per week, attracting many overnight tourists. Occasionally react to human presence (e.g., speeding up when approached). Local folklore speaks of "doors to other worlds."

In 1998 ,a light streaked toward researchers, then vanished, caught on thermal cameras. In 2022, a glowing orb split into two, recorded by the Hessdalen AMS automated observatory.

I also wanted to see it with my own eyes when I was 10 back when I first saw it in a cartoon movie.
