This makes me smart

I overheard some some talking heads on the TV the other day and they were going on and on about how it’s unfair that Amazon doesn’t pay anything in taxes.

Though they were discussing 2018, Amazon pulls this off year, after year, after year.

I don’t know about you, but that’s something to strive for… not complain about.

It’s part of what makes our capitalist society work.

And let there be no doubt about it, our economic system does work.

What other system allows you to build a billion-dollar company from your garage, that employs hundreds of thousands of people around the world, and still allows you to keep -- and then reinvest -- the majority of your money?

Answer: There isn’t one.

This attack on Amazon reminds me of the media’s attack on President Trump.

You may recall from his presidential run that the media tried to paint him as a greedy, corporate villain because he wouldn’t release his taxes. While Hillary Clinton had recently released her taxes (losing over 30% of her earnings to taxes, by the way), she claimed it was almost immoral for Donald Trump to get away without paying anything.

His response, “That makes me smart.”

I have to agree, it does make him smart.

Whether or not you believe he has a moral obligation to pay taxes is another issue, but the fact that he has the proper legal protection separating his personal assets from his business assets is what makes him smart. He’s a lifelong entrepreneur. He understands the importance of hiring the best legal and tax advice you can afford.

Again, I have to agree.

Like him or hate him, he knows the importance of hiring the best advisors that money can buy.

Take a few minutes to see what you can do to protect your assets and save on your taxes regardless of where you live.
