The waters are increasingly troubled in the Middle East. The peace agreements signed by two Arab countries, the U.A.E. and Bahrain, with Israel do not ensure peace in the region. As I predicted in my previous two articles, Israel & U.A.E. - there will be no Peace!! and Historic Peace Agreement - Israel & UAE, the consequences of this are tremendous: tensions are rising in the region and the biggest loser is Palestine. Moreover, the move was made official in Washington on September 15, under the "careful guidance" of the US President Donald Trump. The agreement was signed by Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu and Bahrain's Foreign Minister, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayan and UAE Foreign Minister, Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahyan.
Palestinians accuse that the normalization of diplomatic relations between the three states means the betrayal of the Palestinian cause of establishing an independent state and, implicitly, the struggle to liberate the Palestinian territories occupied by Israel. As a sign of diplomatic protest, the Palestinian Foreign Minister, Riyad al-Maliki, announced that his country would relinquish its six-month mandate to hold the chairmanship of the Arab League meetings. The Ramallah official considers as disgraceful and shameful any action taken by an Arab state to normalize relations with Israel.
This decision also comes as a result of Palestine's failed attempts from the last month to persuade the Arab League to hold accountable those member states that do not respect the League's principles of keeping a distance from Israel and are acting to normalize relations with that state.
Palestine was supposed to take over the chairmanship for a period of 6 months.
What is the Arab League?
The Arab League is a regional Arab organization that was created on the 22nd of March, 1945, in Cairo, Egypt. Currently, there are 22 members states, including Syria that has been suspended since 2011.
