Altcoin Bull Run: Why Hype Doesn’t Translate into Everyday Innovation?

By @DominaCivitas | DominaCivitas | 12 Apr 2025

Many altcoin projects have been criticised for not offering practical, everyday advancements that surpass existing centralised solutions or bring revolutionary innovations to entertainment and other areas.

Note before reading: I already know you won’t read all the way to the end 😂

I don’t mean to be the bearer of bad news, but if you truly don’t know how to trade in volatility, lend liquidity, take advantage of loan interest rates on your assets, short your assets, and harness compound interest, then unless you get lucky, you won’t ever make a leap in your financial life. You’ll be either the duck or the fish on which I unload my bags and profit from your loss.

Some important considerations:

Hype versus Reality:

Many projects emerged with ambitious promises and intense marketing campaigns, but in practice, the real advancements fall short of what was advertised. For example, while the idea of a decentralised economy or immersive experiences on digital platforms attracts investors, the actual implementation is often limited to niche sectors and fails to reach the general public.

Stage of Development:

Many altcoin projects are still in the early stages of development or depend on surrounding ecosystems that have not yet fully matured. Thus, even if the underlying technology is promising, the tangible benefits for the everyday user—such as increased efficiency or new forms of entertainment—still fail to translate into experiences superior to traditional alternatives.

Everyday Impact:

If we consider what would constitute a practical advancement in daily life, projects that truly transform sectors (for example, fast payments, robust decentralised finance, or innovative entertainment platforms) need to demonstrate usability, scalability, and broad adoption. At the moment, many altcoin projects are based more on expectations of speculative appreciation than on an actual change in users’ routines.

In summary:

The criticism that altcoins are not delivering solutions that truly improve users’ lives is valid. This lack of tangible innovation may explain both the below-expectation performance and the heightened caution among investors. For there to be a genuine “altcoin party,” something must go beyond mere hype and demonstrate real use cases that impact everyday life. Without that, the era of altcoin celebrations is over, leaving only unsubstantial speculation in its wake.
