If you don't already know, back in January of 2022 I joined a waiting list for a WeatherXM weather station. (The people's weather station)Helium was not quite so bad then and selling weather data for rewards sounded good. There was chatter back then that it may not be a legitimate project, but we took a chance. So in April of 2022 we were invited to order one and by the end of September it had arrived and was mounted on our roof.
For the last 6 months we have been online with very little down time but still wondering if we would ever earn anything as mainet dates had not even been confirmed.
We have now had an update from WeatherXM and we should expect to go on to mainet by Q4 2023, so we will have been collecting data for over a year which we should be retrospectively compensated for from the 3 million or 3% of WXM tokens put aside for beta testers. Our exact amount will be calculated the day before going live and airdropped to us. Although it looks as though it will not all be airdropped in one go but over months so we can't all just sell our tokens straight away!
- We will run the latest reward algorithm (the one that will be used on token launch) on all data sent to the network during the beta phase.
- We will identify the number of valid station-days per station.
- Then we will calculate the total number of station-days:
valid station-days of station1 + valid station-days of station2 + valid station-days of station3 + …- Finally, we calculate R, the reward per station-day, by dividing the 3 million tokens by the total number of valid station-days.
(For example, if we have 600,000 valid station-days, then station-day Reward = 3,000,000:600,000 = 5 $WXM)
At this point, every beta-tester will know the total beta-rewards that have been allocated for them: Rewards = R x station-days that will be airdropped.
A valid station day is when you have provided data for 1 full day.
As for our daily earnings for providing data, that should work as per the diagram below
WeatherXM have also said that at some point in the future governance will move over to a DAO (hopefully not one of the dictator DAO's where just a handful of people control the vote!) There are a few more details to be confirmed at a later date including if 80% of uptime and data transfer will count as a full day, amongst other things but we should know before going over to mainet.
I am still hopeful that this is a legitimate project and it will be nice to receive some tokens eventually that may hopefully be worth something, but I will keep you updated on how it goes!
