Worldwide Economic Collapse: How to Protect Your Capital

28 Sep 2020 busyjordy

01 October 2020
I see your point. However, I also believe that we are entering a bull cycle that will take us to the previous ATH and beyond. In this regard, I feel that Bitcoin is still having loads of fuel in it and I can't give up on it just yet. I am reducing the amount of alts I trade because it is hard to keep up with all, but I still have more than 30 and it's hard to reduce them to any less because of liquidity - I like to trade some smaller cap coins that don't have high volume to be able to buy 10k or 20k usd worth in each, so I have to trade a larger variety in order to have smaller amounts in each. Banks wouldn't allow you to trade crypto because it's less predictable and more volatile, hence the greater the risks.. makes sense. Good luck to you too and let's see if I'm right about Bitcoin in a year or two. I won't be surprised to see it above $30k by then.

I just don't see why would you not use one of the crypto debit cards (wirex, monaco, bitwala etc) and have an easy point-of-sale conversion of Bitcoin. What is the problem with that? I know that as a currency it is not yet globally accepted, but until that happens, just use the tools that are at hand. So far, it has been very good as a digital asset for speculators and its volatility is really the best thing for anyone who wants to trade it. If it was less volatile, it won't be as profitable.

For someone who's been in Bitcoin since the early days, you seem to have fallen out of love with it. I know a few more people like you, who no longer think it will grow as big as expected, but I am still a strong supporter and there is a lot happening in the crypto space to be excited about. As a trader, my crypto portfolio includes about 40+ coins, so I am in no mean a maximalist but I am seeing a much better potential for crypto gains in the medium term over gold and other precious metals. When I speak of risk-reward ratio, I talk in general terms, if you compare the growth of Bitcoin against Gold in the past decade, the figures speak for themselves.

Bitcoin Is The Original DeFi

27 Sep 2020 busyjordy

29 September 2020
I am a digital nomad, stranded in Cyprus due to the pandemic but I spent the last 2 years in Barcelona where I was using Bitcoin in many places. I also spent last winter in Asia where I was using my Wirex and Revolut cards all the time as my money is all in crypto. I've been earning and spending crypto for the past 5 years and I do not agree that Bitcoin should be deemed unsuccessful just because its use case is not fully realised. Its volatility is the main reason for it not being accepted widely. Merchants just don't want the risk of their prices fluctuating too much. This is why it's been mostly a speculative asset rather than means of payment but that will change with time. If we discuss semantics, the term "digital cash" can easily be replaced by "digital money" and it won't change its main concept - that Bitcoin is a completely digital form of money (along with its many other properties that don't belong to money) and that as such, it is revolutionary and unique (if we don't count all the altcoins that came to existence after it). Not a single business in your town accepts Bitcoin? I am sure not one of them accepts GBP or YAN or Swiss Frank either, but that doesn't make these currencies any less successful. Bitcoin in this case is one of the many currencies that are not accepted but could be easily exchanged into EUR which everyone in your town would accept... right?

Worldwide Economic Collapse: How to Protect Your Capital

I don't deny the power of gold in the sense of a world collapse. However, we are not talking of a complete wipe out of the current system and while economies are collapsing, the world as such isn't. Cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin in particular are offering a new way of looking at money - in a decentralised, censorship resistant, and in many cases deflationary model. This is why I believe that with Bitcoin, your capital is bound to grow, while still in a very volatile and risky asset, but it's a good risk-reward ratio. With gold we're talking about security but not exactly an exponential growth. If you aren't super rich right now, then Gold is not your best asset. Crypto is. Once you make the big money, then diversify into gold, property, stocks etc... I am talking about making money today, not having it safe for a rainy day and this is the difference I think.

Bitcoin and stablecoins allow $50 billion to flow out of China

27 Sep 2020 busyjordy

29 September 2020
You have a point, but in the end, the main focus of this report was to raise awareness that the Communist Party in China does not allow people to move large amounts of their own capital out of the country and this is civil liberty being limited in an unfair way. I did not investigate where the money goes to, so I won't be able to answer that question properly. My take is that it does not have to be stolen money, crypto is not just used for fraud you know...

Bitcoin and stablecoins allow $50 billion to flow out of China

27 Sep 2020 busyjordy

28 September 2020
it goes wherever people need it to be. Some are just expats living in the US and other countries, business owners who operate with large amounts, that were not allowed to be transferred - something that crypto was created to fight - the censorship of your own capital. People should be allowed to move their capital as they need it to. If it's their own, then why would someone dictate how they use it?

Worldwide Economic Collapse: How to Protect Your Capital

28 Sep 2020 busyjordy

I get it, you are in a place where Bitcoin is not accepted. However, it is in many other places around the world and you can also use it with Debit cards, such as Wirex, which I use, so I can pay with crypto for anything anywhere (where cards are accepted). It's a Visa card, so there's a interoperability there, which is very useful. I am not so sure that in the face of economic collapse, I would be able to exchange a gold ring for a loaf of bread. I wouldn't take your ring, I'd keep the bread. Gold is also hard to transport (in larger quantities) and there are many cases in our history where governments forced people to give their gold stash to the authorities (last time it happened in USA was in the 1930s). The case of Gold vs Bitcoin is ongoing and I put my money in Bitcoin (for now) - it has outperformed Gold in the past decade - every year. Talking of better ROI - Bitcoin is for sure the winner.

Paypal, Visa and the other services you mentioned are payment processors. They are not digital cash in the sense Bitcoin is. They do not have the characteristics of digital cash, they merely operate with the already established currencies while Bitcoin is a currency in its own right. There were 2 other attempts at creating digital cash before Bitcoin that were somewhat successful, but got shut down by the authorities. Bitcoin succeeded in this sense and is used today by millions of people around the globe. It may not yet be mainstream enough (you are right about this) but it is successful nevertheless.
