Watercoloring: failed attempt

Well i don't blame people for thinking they mean the same with tilt as rotation because it is definitely not made very clear on the websites etc. They used to mention the rotation sensor on the art-pen page on the wacom site but now i only see a pen called 3D-pen, but they don't mention rotation support so i'm not 100% sure it has it. So ask before buying:) But yeah it is really important to be able to rotate a wide brush in your hand to go 'around' or 'over' shapes better and to give each line a different rotation, it's important with real or with digital brushes. This are two portraits that I made with Painter and Photoshop and with the pen's rotation function : https://timcoster.com/2015/02/23/digital-portrait-dr-michio-kaku/ https://timcoster.com/2012/10/23/portrait-olav-mackaay/

You're welcome! The 360 degree rotation is actually separate from the tilt functionality. Tilt is for the angle between the pen and the tablet but rotation is for the pen barrel rotation. In Photoshop i always set the angle setting for the brush to use the pen rotation. That way you can rotate oval or wide brushes just by rotating the pen in your hand to get thin or wide lines and to get into small corners easily etc. Which is way nicer to have than the tilt function imo:) The pen that i have has rotation + tilt + pressure..I think they named it the 3D pen nowadays..

I really like it:) Maybe it is not what you were looking for but it looks nice. I think if you want it to really look like real watercolor you should fine tune the hell out of the brush settings in Painter. Also does your tablet pen support 360 degree rotation? I had to buy a seperate 'art-pen' that supports it for my intuos pro, but it can really help with realism a lot.. Also with real watercolor you should never try to blend brushstrokes afterwards because it will make the paint look less 'fresh'. always try to make every brushstroke count and never use white water color paint because the white has to come from the 'paper'. those are basically the 'rules' from the old masters:)

Very nice work Crypto&Life:) Also nice to see them all together! Btw. don't know if you want to keep it black&white but i'd love to see some with colours:) An idea for quick colouring would be to first paint like a simple gradient covering the entire paper, before drawing over it with black. That way you won't have to color it in afterwards. Worked for me in the past:) Cheers!
