Who am I to my son?

Who do I desire to be to him?

Who is my son to me?

Who do I desire him to be?

To my son I desire to be,

A role model,

A hero,

A confidant,

A mentor;

Worthy.

I desire for my son to be,

Noble, 

Courageous, 

Values-driven,

Humble and,

Unlimited--

Why are my desired Beings,

Roles?

And why,

Are those roles based on worth?

While what I desire for him,

Are attributes;

And the inability for his worth,

To ever be in question?

Who is my father to me?

Who do I desire him to be?

Who am I to him?

Who do I desire to be to him?

To my father I desire to be,

Capable, 

Independent, 

Legacy extending,

Forgiving, 

Forgiven;

Worthy. 

I desire for my father to be,

Proud, 

Happy, 

Fulfilled, 

Destined--

Why are these lists so different? 

While the dynamic is so much the same? 

Should I not desire for my father to be, 

That which I desire to be for my son? 

Should I not desire for my son to be, 

That which I desire to be for my father? 

I think what I want, actually, 

Is for my presence in my father's life, 

To be wholly fulfilling for him; 

And yet I want for my presence in my son's life, 

To be wholly fulfilling for him.

These sound more the same...

But still are so different..

The focal point is always my Self,

And my ability or inability,

To perform to unknowable standards.

The weight of the world, 

Pushes down.

Responsibility replete.

My Self the only constant, 

As I desperately compete.
