(In)Fame

(In)Fame

Early desire for fame as a record of my presence in this world,

And my unbelief that such could be attained-

Led me to the dark path of notoriety,

Filled me with chemicals and drove me insane.

A score of years down on this path,

I finally turn and look on back.

Notoriety has fled me and I thought myself bland,

But I note I am famous in some corner of land.

This corner is noted by only a Creek,

And my presence in this place does allegedly complete.

Ten years I have come here,

Yet never have I known,

That fame it was forming my direction wind blown.

They tell me "everyone is so excited when they hear you are coming, please come more often".

And I look back at my time when this Creek first shone upon my face,

And recall the exuberance of certain presences' place.

I fill that role now for the generations of others,

Yet this natural development has not come as the result of pride or pursuit,

But simply as the observation of value and the application of discipline.

I did not expect this, I did not pursue this.

I am grateful to serve in this role, though it does not fill me with hubris.

Value was given to me, and now I return that value.

We can only keep what we have by giving it away.

Thank you to God, the Eternal Fulfiller.
