If you like to waste your free time fiddling around with silly cell phone games then I image you have seen ads for apps that pay you to play games.
Some look real and some are obviously a scam.
I have tried several. Current, Mist Play, Cointiply, but I have settled on COIN as my app of choice.
The UI is a little crowded but they pack a lot of features into one app.

The COIN app allows you to perform certain functions in exchange for their in app COIN token. They claim that this has some geo mining function, but I believe they are selling your data and use the COIN as a means to keep the customer engaged.
The wall paper of the app is a real time map. You can walk around and hit the pickax logo to geomine the square you are currently standing on. Every time you geomine you receive a fraction of COIN. If this is too slow you can purchase a NFC enabled card that increases the amount of COIN per geomine. I did this and if you download the app I suggest you do too. Without the NFC card geomining is unbearable.
I have taken several train journeys since I started using the COIN app. If you hit the 'Auto Explore' button, the app will geomine automatically when you cross into a new square on the map. If you leave the app open it will eventually move into a sleep mode and can continue mining for hours. Seeing as I was on a train using their wifi I was mining the entire time. I think this feature would be useful for an uber driver or deliver person (with a healthy data plan) who wanted to start getting crypto while they travelled about their city.
Like every other app you can pay monthly fee to upgrade to premium. I signed up for the free trial - which I recommend when you start because you gain a lot of COIN very quickly- but I sat and geomined for a whole Saturday and couldn't generate enough COIN to make it worth the $50 CAD per month.
The app will also allow you to watch full ads for bonus 1-6 COIN per advertisement.
You are selling your time, but that is the game. I have it open while I'm at work and I'll poke around on it on my breaks.
There are a bunch of other actions they want you to perform for more COIN and you can get as into it as you want. But what we all care about is the actual crypto currency rewards.
If you gain 10,000 COIN or more you can redeem those points for XYC tokens that will be dropped into your linked Coinbase account. I do not know what XRC is and I don't want to learn. I do not that you can convert those tokens into effectively free BTC.
If you were to be inclined you could save 838,185 COIN and trade it for a 0.025 BTC or save 2,485,200 COIN and exchange for 1 ETH. But It is my opinion that saving for a big purchase is worse than buying as you go with many small ones. If you are using the account, there is a 2 week waiting period between COIN redemptions. I find this amount of time to be appropriate because if you are not getting special offers or don't have time for rewarded play it will take about 2 weeks to gain 10,000 COIN.
I am still figuring out which features of the COIN app are my favorite but my top three currently are
1. Special Offers
2. Rewarded Play
3. GEO Mining while in Mental Exercise mode.
Special Offers:
All of these pay you to play apps are advertising platforms. Third parties will figure out what a click through, download, or sign up is worth to them and pay a referral fee to a service that can drive them the desired traffic. These apps pass part of that fee onto the target audience to ensure higher success rates. You see the same model in the crypto space all the time. Exchanges will incentivize new customers with $5 of BTC or with all the affiliate links the provide.
These incentives can all be found in the special offers tab. This is the way to gain large amounts of COIN by signing up for sites, downloading games, or sometimes spending real money.
The best ones are the sports gambling apps. They are giving out huge amounts of COIN to bet on their apps. I get that not everyone is into sports or gambling, I rarely want to spend money. That's the point of this entire project. The kicker is these sports betting sites will match your first deposit or even give you free bets and will allow you to play both sides of a bet. Meaning you can deposit $100 get $100 of bet credits and figure out a way to hedge your bets against each other so no matter who wins the particular game you still make money. Then you get your COIN reward and withdraw your hard fought $120 and delete the betting app.

Rewarded Play
This is for the people who like playing silly cell phone games.
Third party gaming apps will give you COIN for completing levels or achievements in their game. Now I always have 1 or 2 puzzle games to play on my commute to work. Many commenters are doing this anyways, this in a round about way is monetizing my down time.
There is a mode within rewarded play that will reward you based on time spent in the game app. I have used an autoclicker before to keep my device active but after 3 or 4 rewards periods in a row I have noticed the payouts stop. I will use that mode to make a few hundred COIN if I am on hold at work or something brianless like that.
I am rewarded a few thousand COIN per week using this type of rewarded task.

GEO Mining while in Mental Exercise mode.
If you are on 1 map square you cannot geomine that square again until you clear it. The clearing mechanism is there so that you cannot install an autoclicker and mine without looking at your phone. The app makes you do a small easy to complete puzzle and then you geo mine again.
If you activate the mental exercise (spelled wrong in the app lol) you will be rewarded 25 COIN for completing 25 puzzles. They give you the option of changing the limit for puzzles. After 25 there is no additional reward. I completed 100 in a row and only got 25 COIN.
I typically will do 1 or 2 mental exercize modes per day. Usually one over lunch and one in the evening. Its an easy 50+ COIN. 25 for each task completed and all the COIN you have geomined.

I really like this app. I have been rewarded thousands of XYC tokens or the last few months that I have exchanged for BTC that now sits in my Binance wallet earning APY. And most importantly I am adding to my BTC position without spending too much money, most of the time I am spending $0.
