My finance is out of town this evening, I am almost caught at work and honestly a little burnt out so I wanted a change of pace, but I also wanted some mindless grinding with better upside that Play to Earn apps.

So I sat down, turned on my Cambly and thought about the ways I have made money in the past. I remembered Amazon's Mechanical Turk or MTurk. 

My article on MTurk was from 2023 and at that time I had been using MTurk for 5 years. Yes, I was getting paid to train Artificial Intelligence models 8 years before the the AI revolution which I find very funny at this point. I wonder how much of an impact I had on these models. 

MTurk get me company on many lonely covid nights, so I have very fond memories of grinding MTurk money. For months MTurk was the prime mover for a string of activities that could only be seen as money laundering from the outside. 

It went something like this:

1. I completed tasks on Mturk and got paid in Amazon gift cards. I would use my Amazon credits to buy the Sol Ring Magic the Gathering card. This was a great lowfi arbitrage for about a year. I was able to buy the Sol Ring at a low price, then sell it at a decent profit almost right away on Ebay.
2. Ebay at the time paid out to PayPal. The Sol Ring would turn into PayPal Credits
3. I would use my PayPal credit to buy Bitcoin off of Nigerian scammers on PaxFul

Rinse and repeat.

Since the last time I checked in on MTurk much has changed. BTC rose from $27,000 CAD to $107,000 CAD, Ebay pays out directly to Canadian bank accounts now, Paxful has shut down, and today I got the news that Amazon is shutting down Mechanical Turk at the end of this month.  

This feels like the end of an era. I guess AI doesn't need humans to train anymore. 

At the end of the MTurk's life I completed 12K HITs and made $1,012.30 USD.
