Quantum Computing

With the rise of quantum computing, what threats does this pose to blockchain?

Quantum computers are rumored to be strong enough to break the encryption that secures transactions in blockchain networks.  Existing in superposition, qubits are able to solve problems infinitely quicker than traditional supercomputers.

Tech is rising extremely quickly and it makes one argue that the tech in the hands of attackers could outpace mainstream society.  I don't think this is necessarily the case but people I have spoken to have brought up the question.

Feel free to comment what you think of quantum computing and any specific security threats it poses to the cryptography of cryptocurrencies.

I would like to see a cryptocurrency functioning off the advancements made in quantum cryptography.  While quantum computers are said to function extremely efficiently, quantum cryptography is rumored to produce impenetrable systems of encryption that are impossible to break.

I think it will be decades before we see quantum computers completely replace the mainstream internet since this tech is largely theoretical and in early stages of development (or so they say).

I am someone who is extremely interested in understanding the fundamental concepts of quantum mechanics and I take an interest in quantum computing because its an aspect of quantum physics.

I have come to learn all smart phones and lots of tech rely on the uncertainty occurring on the quantum level.

Whether we understand the physics or not, quantum mechanics will be heavily involved in influencing the future of cryptocurrency.

Please feel free to comment your thoughts on quantum mechanics/computing/cryptography and its implications on cryptocurrency, specifically in terms of encryption.
