This weekend, a group of my friends arranged a trip to Laton Falls, located in northern Iran. Laton waterfall with a height of 105 meters is a freefalling waterfall located in the eastern Alborz mountain range and Lavandavil, Astara County, within Gilan Province of far northwestern Iran.

Laton is called the tallest waterfall in Iran and is one of the extraordinary attractions not far from our city.

Although going to this place is very tempting, but the hardship of the road and the unpaved uphill path was the challenge we had to overcome.

Like many waterfalls in the Gilan region, getting to  Laton falls required determination, and travelers have to hike a very steep mountainous road in the middle of the forest to the waterfall.

I measured the route with the Strava app and it estimated that we walked a distance of about 10 km to the waterfall.

As we would reach the top of the heights, one by one, we would be delighted with the wonder of the mountains, the trees, the green land, and the birds chirping, while gasping for breath with exhaustion, but still couldn’t ignore this indescribable world and not fall in love with the magic of the giant green mountains.

Interestingly, many travelers made it easy for themselves by riding the difficult route of Laton waterfall on trucks, jeeps, patrols, and motorcycles.   And according to some friends, taking tourists to the top of the scenic area of ​​Laton Falls has now become one of the sources of income for many people who would use their vehicles to get people to the top of the mountain.

Although this was good news for those who dislike walking, it seemed dangerous, as the dirt and rocky paths were very steep and in some cases full of water.
