  • A national strike is taking place in Belgium, with trade unions going on strike and around 10,000-15,000 people demonstrating in defense of the right to strike and against social dumping. Disruptions to public transport and other services are expected.The demonstration will start at Gare du Nord and continue to Gare du Midi. STIB will provide live information on Twitter, and De Lijn will update its website. SNCB does not expect any issues. The strike was inspired by limits on workers' right to strike at the grocery chain Delhaize.

  • EU foreign affairs ministers will discuss Ukraine's blocklist of private companies that it claims are "war sponsors," including some European firms. Hungary and Greece seek to remove some of their companies from the list before agreeing to the next sanctions package against Russia.

  • Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is trying to persuade Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio "Lula" da Silva to cut ties with Russia and condemn Vladimir Putin at the G7 summit in Hiroshima.

  • The G7 summit also resulted in a collective message to China, urging Russia to drop its war on Ukraine and criticizing Beijing's overseas police stations targeting dissidents.

  • Greece's ruling conservative party, New Democracy, won a landslide victory in an election but fell short of a governing majority. Another election is likely to be held on June 25 or July 2.

  • Meta (formerly Facebook) faces a potential record fine under the EU's General Data Protection Regulation for transferring Europeans users' Facebook data to the U.S.

  • Moldova is urging Brussels to begin negotiations over its accession to the EU almost a year after being granted candidate status.

  • U.S. President Joe Biden is meeting with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to negotiate to avoid default on American debts.

  • The first-ever NAFO Summit, a gathering of Russian propaganda fighters, is set to take place in Vilnius in July.

  • A Russian business association has appealed to the labor ministry to consider introducing a six-day workweek to cope with the impact of Western sanctions.

  • The World Health Organization's annual gathering in Geneva focuses on a global pandemic treaty.

  • The Foreign Affairs Council and Competitiveness Council meetings are scheduled for the day.
