I know that using bots can be controversial in Splinternland but I am in process of creating some support software for multi-account setup in Splinterland so I want to raise this topic, which is controversial.
They make no difference
I think that to start a discussion on the bots we should try to understand the game, its phases and difficulties.
An SP is a collectable card-based game quite commonly compared to Hearthstone of MTG, but I find one crucial difference between them. In typical collectable card games, you have 3 phases( or main areas). You start with building the collection, continue with arranging the cards into decks and then play with a deck. The crucial point is that two people with exactly the same collection can create a different deck. Similarly, two players using exactly the same deck can have completely different games.
On the other hand in Splinterland you only have two phases. You start by collecting the cards and then when the battle comes you select your team. However, the outcome of the battle is well known and always the same. As a result, bots are no different than a wiki with "best strategies for Bronze/Silver/Gold" the only difference is that a bot is playing 24/7 without human interaction. Additionally, Splinternland actively stops you from playing every 5 minutes by implementing ECR, daily quest and power to reach the higher league.
There is no unfair edge in bots
I want to talk more about the benefits of the bots and why they are just automated wiki.
In most games, bots are banned as they provide an unfair advantage against another player. Let's talk by example, in CS:GO players using wallhack (ability to see through walls) and aimbot can easily kill everybody and have perfect spacial awareness(I mean such player know where is everybody which make ist difficult to surprise him), this makes playing against him an impossible task, which breaks the game.
On the contrary in Splinterland playing against the bot is no different, as the game is based on the collection power and team order, which is not a secret. This is a reason, that in my opinion, SP bots are no different to a good article providing winning strategies. I also think that in a case bot will discover a new best strategy, it will quickly be used by other players which will change a game but will not make it worst for human players.
It is time for SplinterBots
This is a little utility program I am writing now. I call it a multiple account management tool but I am aware it can be called a bot.
Currently, SplinterBots is my multi-account management, which means it can automate boring tasks like:
- transfer DEC to one main account
- rent preselected cards
- ensure that power level is always above 1000 by renting the cheapest cards
- claim daily rewards
- claim season rewards
I am starting to look into adding battle abilities so it can become the normal bot.
I will give something back
After I finish my bot, I am going to create free tools for Splinternland. My plan is to use Machine learning so the bot can create its own winning strategies and I will find a way to share them with a player base.
