Goodbye old friend, Publish0x is looking to clean house and get rid of inactive accounts. Let us look at the numbers

Let us take a look at the numbers we can access and see what this house cleaning would mean for Publish0x.

What does the update say, and additional info

In it, Igor says that the initial users that will be targeted are users who are inactive for 12 months or longer. This time span will eventually move down to 6 months.

These users will also get a notification email, in advance. Igor told me then when I talked to him about it. So any user will have proper time to act and reactivate their account if they so wish.

Igor also told me that any tip these accounts have would be lost, for everyone if I understood him correctly. This means the user as well as Publish0x.

Will, you an active user be affected

The biggest thing probably on many people's minds is how and if they will be affected. And as far as I can tell there should be no adverse effect on us the users. We should not loos any tips or things like that. And I assume comments or posts made by them could technically still be kept, just moved to either anonymous or directly under Publish0x.

But honestly, I don't really see any point in that. Old posts usually are either replaced by new once or out of date.

The only thing that I can think of that will affect users would be the drop in followers. But you technically have 12-6 months to replace the inactive follower with a new one. So sure, some users will see an initial drop in followers if they have been on the platform more than 12 months.

Let us take a look at some of the numbers

Why do this, well mostly because I find it fun and interesting. And you are always free to skip this part. ;)

Currently, Publish0x has a total of 465,860 registered users. And according to the data, over the last 30 months, the number of new users is a total of 428,529. This gives us a monthly average of 14,284 new users. The site has however felt the effect of the bear market as the number of new users more or less have followed Bitcoins price and is sitting at around ~1/4 of its peak. The last month had 5704 new users.

If we take a look at the absolute worst scenario, which would be if everyone with an account older than 1 year is inactive. This would leave us with a total of 154,815 users. Or about 1/3 of the old total.

If we look at the last month we saw there was a total of 10,330 users who tipped. And that includes the 5704 new users, I assume so at least.  If we use that number of around 2:1 then it would give us a max estimate. Putting us at ~310,000 users. This means that there are about ~150,000 users that are considered inactive. And I would say that probably sounds about right. Given that Publish0x was started in December 2018 there are probably several test accounts that are lying inactive from people who just wanted to see what it was and how it worked.

So if you have been active here on Publish0x and have accrued followers for over a year, you might end up losing around 1/3 of them after this "cleansing" is implemented.

While this is in no way as accurate as I would like it to be it is the best I could do with the tools I have at my disposal. =)

I hope you found this post to be of interest. And I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Do you think it is a good thing or a bad thing to get rid of inactive accounts? Please share your thoughts in the comments down below.
