Hey!
Another Social Media Post… and this time the topic is about the players journey through the game, so this is my story:
Discovery of Splinterlands
In July or August of 2021, don’t quite remember, I entered the crypto world and bought my first cryptocurrencies and did my first trades in the Binance exchange. Unfortunately for me, I entered this world quite late and Bitcoin had a value of already U$D 30.000 but still, it was a new exciting new world for me.
And excited as I was, I spent a lot of time learning about all this new stuff; liquidity pools, launchpads, staking, etc. And among all this terms, “play2earn” … me, being a gamer at heart wanted to know more about making money while playing games and it was quite disappointing. Most of these games are horrible, not real games at all, just simulators of some kind, with a tokenized economy, but I understand is for investors, not gamers.
Among all these horrible games, I remember I read a comment in some YouTube channel about one call “Splinterlands”. I visited videos about this game and I was drawn quite fast. For me it was the Monster cards, because when I was a kid I used to enjoy collecting and playing Yu-Gi-Oh! And Duel Masters or any other card game, and the design of Splinterlands cards are beautiful, in my opinion.
So, even with my lack of expertise, the entry to this game was simple. I created an account and in August 2021, I purchased Splinterlands Spellbook using ten dollars in Tron, from my Binance account. And that was my first crypto transaction ever.

My time in the game
Being a player from August 2021 doesn’t make me one of the eldest players, since the game has been online since 2018, however with two years and a half of gaming and, over 16.000 battles on my back, I consider myself a seasoned “warrior” with a respectable score, because I have a winning rate of +59%.
At the beginning, I was quite hooked to the game, but with the months going by, I started to become more of an intermittet player. But these last couple of months I became the Co-Leader of my Guild, Silver Knights and because of some sense of responsibility I try to check in, contribute, fight Brawls and also increase my Rating points, so I would say that right now I’m being a regular player.

Accomplishments
To be honest, financially I never set any goal, which is wrong, I just focus in the game. I did have goals for the game itself:
- Play in the Champions League: Goal achieved. I wanted to play in that league, because of the daily Rewards; unfortunately nowadays, renting your way up there is not a choice anymore. You’ll lose more than what you win.

- Get my winning rate up to 60%: Goal achieved, although now is 59%. I guess it indicates that you have a certain level and is good for my gamer ego.
- Have a firm foot in the Bronze League: Goal achieved. I own enough cards to be a competitive Bronze player. Of course now, that doesn’t mean much.
Regarding goals to be achieved, I’m not sure… one would be to have a firm foot in the Silver League, which means leveling up the cards I already own. I have a good grip in the Silver League, but it could be much better, especially in the Modern Format. However, a goal without a plan is not a goal, is a desire, and right now I don’t have any plan.
I guess that a way to do it, without spending money from the outside, is to keep writing, after all, that was what allowed me to be good at Bronze in the first place, however the expenses in Silver and higher leagues are different, so that means a lot of writing…
Another way to do it is by being active, both in Ranked battles and in Brawls. There are great Reward cards and the Gladius Cases contain deadly Monsters which turn the battles around… and they are free… Soulbound, but free.

Advice for beginners
The last Social Media Challenge I did was about this, so I wouldn’t have much else to say, just some key points, so you enter this game with open eyes:
- Understand this game is NOT free to play.
- If you decide to play try to be, at least, a Silver League player. The Bronze League or the “Blood Pits”, that’s how I call it, is tough. Players have good cards, leveled up, are more seasoned and the Rewards are lame.
- Understand that things can change anytime. The good news is that the Splinterlands Gods make the right decisions to protect the game’s future. The bad news is that sometimes these changes affect new players. I experienced those bitter changes myself, from playing in Diamond to falling to Silver, and more bitter changes.
- Understand that the biggest asset of this game is it’s Community. Write, share your experience, engage, be active in the Blockchain, understand how it works and bring value in general and it will pay off. Engage thoughtfully though, don’t go around asking for upvotes or subs, that is both pathetic and counter-productive.

At last…
How Splinterlands changed my life?... I understand that some players probably made a small fortune out of the game, but for many of us is just that… a game, with few huge winners and many losers, because it’s an economy, so it’s kind of an over-reach for me to say “it changed my life”.
I do have to say it had many positive impacts on me:
- First, I discovered an amazing game, which again, made me nostalgic about my childhood with collectible Monster cards.
- Second, alongside with the crypto world in general, it introduced me to new financial opportunities.
- Third, it allowed me to make money in a creative way, by writing and even drawing, so it opened another world for me.
Talking about the Community and being social, I’m not much of a sociable person, so I cannot say that made an impact at all, but I understand some people appreciate that, since they can become friends and share interests with people all across the globe, so maybe you’ll find that aspect appealing.
