A complete guide to key macro events and tech earnings moving the markets this week

Traders Prepare for Major Volatility as Key Data Approaches

Traders are gearing up for a action packed week in the financial markets. Between July 28 and July 31, 2026, a series of macro events could trigger major market shifts. The Federal Reserve is set to announce its interest rate stance on Wednesday, july 29, followed immediately by GDP numbers and core PCE inflation figures on Thursday, july 30. Adding to the excitement, quarterly earnings from tech heavyweights like Microsoft, Meta, Apple, and Amazon are all dropping within these few days. With Bitcoin consolidating near $64,000, market participants are watching closely to see which direction prices will break.

US stock Market

Checking the market heatmaps reveals a split market environment. Mainstream indices like the S&P 500 are attempting a minor push higher, whereas tech index ETFs like QQQ are encountering overhead resistance. NVIDIA took a noticeable hit, pulling back over 4%, which dragged down parts of the semiconductor group. On the flip side, shares of Apple, Google, and Microsoft managed to remain positive. Outside the mega caps, speculative activity remains active, highlighted by explosive moves like AMZE rising over 200%. All of this points toward elevated market volatility.

Stock Apple

Zooming in on Apple, the stock continues to display macro strength. Holding firmly near $338, AAPL boasts a solid gain of over 55% across the 12 month timeframe. However, institutional order flow metrics show a temporary net outflow, particularly among larger ticket orders. It is a common pattern for institutional desks to de risk or take partial profits ahead of high impact earnings announcements.

Stock Microsoft

Microsoft presents a different chart setup. The stock has experienced a pullback of roughly 25% over the past year, largely driven by investor debates regarding massive AI infrastructure expenditure. Interestingly, capital flow statistics reveal recent net inflows driven by large scale orders. This indicates that institutional buyers might be actively accumulating shares during this consolidation phase.

My Opinion

My take on the current setup is that capital preservation should be the top priority. The upcoming economic reports and earnings releases will act as volatility catalysts across both traditional finance and crypto markets. A dovish tone from the central bank could easily reignite bullish momentum for risk on assets. Conversely, any hawkish surprises could result in short term downside pressure. Waiting for the initial volatility to settle before taking new positions appears to be the most sensible strategy here.
