Ring Fit Adventure
Last week I made the bold decision to buy a new game for my Nintendo Switch. Not just a regular old platformer though, oh no. This time I decided to really step out of my comfort zone and pick up a fitness game.
Ring Fit Adventure is a game for the Switch that combines fitness and RPG mechanics into one game. I'll probably dub these fRPGs if it is a genre that takes off in popularity in the future.
The game set me back about $80 but the bundle included the physical game, a ring shaped joy con controller and a joy con leg strap. The ring controlled is a resistance ring, so it can take some physically strain from the user.
Basically, you plug your joy cons into the designated controllers and you're ready to start your journey. The game has a story line to follow but there are also side activities and mini games you can take part in if you don't want to dive into the story all the time.
For me, I enjoy the story and the RPG mechanic that comes with it. Typically, you are guiding your character through a single line running course and encountering obstacles and enemies along the way. You get to use different fitness moves to help defeat them and gain exp. The whole idea of gamification to fitness is great.
There are plenty of skill levels and exercises that you are able to sift through that way you can find something that is comfortable with you. The game also grows over time with you and makes sure that you are doing things in a healthy man er. Heck, it even offers health and safety tips to use outside of the video game itself.
Overall, I'm super pleased with this game thus far and I plan to try and get into a good habit of playing it in the morning as much as I can. I'll be honest though, it does kick my butt right now so hopefully I can build up some endurance and get better at playing longer sessions!
What so you guys think? How do you feel about fitness games? Do you enjoy gamification?
