Movie Music Legend John Parr Joins CBFF Judging Panel for 2025

Carmarthen Bay Film Festival is delighted to announce that the Grammy nominated singer songwriter John Parr will be joining our festival judging panel, overseeing our brand new Movie Soundtrack category for CBFF2025.

John’s career to date has been a long and diverse one, taking off in the 1980’s when his legendary single ‘St Elmo’s Fire (Man in Motion)’ became a number one hit worldwide. Best known for being the title track for Joel Schumacher’s classic 1985 ‘brat pack’ movie St Elmo’s Fire, the song was originally written as an anthem for wheelchair athlete Rick Hansen and his ‘Man in Motion’ journey around the world. John has written and performed title tracks and music for 15 Hollywood films, including ‘Three Men and a Baby’, ‘The Running Man’, ‘Near Dark’ and ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’.

During his career John has worked with countless icons of the music industry, touring with world renowned musicians such as Tina Turner, The Beach Boys and Heart, and selling over 10 million albums globally. As a songwriter he has written for various artists including Tom Jones, Meatloaf, The Monkees and The Who’s Roger Daltrey.

John is an ambassador for the United Service Organizations (USO), USA Cares and Military Families, and his album ‘The Mission’ was inspired by the sacrifices made by service men and women, with proceeds from this album going to military charities to help with the rehabilitation of troops.

Since diversifying into film-making John has written and produced a variety of short films, including ‘Road to Damascus’, produced with his business partner Chris Munro, and coming in the top ten at the Academy Awards for Best Live Action Short Film.

Most recently John has set up a new film division and its first production, a drama documentary titled ‘Unconquered’, told the story of the lives of two former soldiers injured in the line of duty. It went on to win 120 awards around the world, and was also nominated at the Carmarthen Bay Film Festival 2023.

There will be an opportunity to meet John at this year’s festival in May, for those who are attending, and don’t forget that there is still time to submit your films before 29th February at https://filmfreeway.com/CarmarthenBayFilmFestival
