First review mini trucks

Today on the first episode of Scotties garage we're going to review mini trucks taking a deeper look into 2005 Ford Ranger, versus a 2004 Chevrolet s10. two classic iconic trucks from yesteryear not many competition has been put in that range for small size trucks

Ford ranger 2005

A quick reference to Ford's history : Henry Ford was an American automobile manufacturer who created the Model T in 1908 and went on to develop the Assembly line, which forever shaped and changed. the automotive industry As a result, Ford has sold millions of middle class to high class vehicles.

 Now on to the ranger.

The good - Multiple trim levels and options, functional interior, cheap price.

The bad - Dated platform, weak engines, choppy ride, lack of modern features and amenities, no crew cab body style.

Now car review for the average consumer I had a mechanic friend of mine own a Ford Ranger for close to 15 years he says it was the most reliable truck he ever owned so sometimes you cannot believe the things that you read on the internet.

It had a 3.0l engine with 148 horse power. He did say don't ever try to get anywhere in a hurry because that engine has no power.

But he did run a minor landscaping business out of his truck so it could handle approximately 600 lb of weight everyday for a few years. Without the suspension sagging.

Allegedly fuel pump, heater core and the oil pan are 3 problem areas to look at when thinking of purchasing one of these trucks there's still lots of these trucks around and they still have lots of life left if you're looking to buy a little truck on a budget I would put the ranger at a 5 out of 10.

2004 Chevrolet s10

A quick look at Chevy's history: Chevrolet was formed as its own automotive company on November 3, 1911 by Louis Chevrolet, a Swiss racecar driver withe the help of William Durant, a businessman/ General Motors founder and former manager. Also Rose to success and have sold millions of cars and trucks worldwide.

Now for the s10.

Available in regular, extended, or crew cabs with short or long beds, the second generation of S10 pickup trucks introduced a variety of package options. In 1996, Chevy introduced the Sportside bed and available three-door cab. For regular cab short-bed S10s, the ZR2 offered a high-performance V6 engine with alloy wheels and sport suspension. This package made off-roading a breeze, thanks to its larger, off-road-ready tires, stronger suspension, and four-wheel drive, which came standard.

The extended cab S10 had a third-door access panel located on the driver’s side that helped make room for additional cargo in the rear cabin. If you were a brave (and small) enough passenger, you could access the fold-down jump seat in the back through the third-door panel. From 1994 to 1997, the rear-wheel drive S10 pickup trucks came standard with a 2.2L, four-cylinder engine generating 118hp.

An available 4.3L V6, able to get 165hp was optional on two-wheel drive S10s and came standard on four-wheel drive models. Engine upgrades on the V6 in 1996 returned more power and torque, operated by either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.

AAs it maybe apparent to tell I am a Chevy guy myself and I own an s10 I have kept it under 100,000 MI and basically clean to this day anyone that likes a personal vehicle this truck almost speaks to you when you drive it it's hard to explain I've never really had a bond with a vehicle like I have my s10.

The good -Torquey V6, nimble off-road, cheap price. Sleek clean body style, 2 styles of box options.

The bad - Spotty build quality, inferior-grade interior trim, low seating positions, poor crash test scores. Spider injector no one to fail heater core known to fail.

That being said I still love my s10. I would give it a 7 out of 10 there would still be room for improvement better miles to the gallon would be a start.

From a repair perspective parts for the Chevrolet are much easier to come by and cheaper more cost effective so if you're on a budget and need a cheap truck I would suggest trying to find yourself an old s10.

Thanks for reading everyone this was my first review feel free to leave a comment questions would try to address everyone if I can. Thank you

Hello everyone I am a mechanic by trade and I just started this blog new to publish0x. I did some looking through the website and seeing that there was not a lot of car reviews so I was thinking I was going to start a weekly car review for the average consumer every week I would compare one to another and tell you which is most cost effective.
