TALLY HO, SALLY FORTH!

We all want to be part of something big; something that works and grows. It’s a common human desire I’ve always wondered about until I discovered the answer. It’s simple.

Among other benefits, joining a cause or organization gives us a sense of purpose in a way. And this enthusiasm is the driving force of many DAO communities in the blockchain space. lately, I’ve had the pleasure of observing this same incentive at Tally Ho. Interesting name? I thought so too.

Tally Ho is a Web 3 wallet built and run by users that is both open-source and free. In other words, Tally Ho belongs to its community and operates as a web extension. Some of the core features of this wallet include total community ownership, fair launching, and sustainable alignment with users.

To showcase their devotion to community ownership, engineers of Tally Ho Wallet have released a functional version to the community, launching it as a pre-alpha edition for community.

What all of this means is that you shouldn’t be using this wallet without adequate know-how. For now, users are encouraged to do just two things: join the Tally Ho Discord and test the wallet using little amounts.

It’s been a long ride to community ownership but finally, the ship is here! A lot of smart moves have been made by the team to bring governance into the hand of the community and one of the major steps was releasing the project’s source code as open sources under the auspices of a copyleft GPLv3 license.

Sometime in December last year (2021), Tally Ho rallied delegates around to begin laying the building blocks for a community of users focused on ample involvement in government.

By the middle of December 2021, the Community Edition of Tally Ho was launched. The purpose was to showcase progress so far and to get valuable feedback.

In the long run, Tally Ho will be unveiling a more final version of the Tally Ho wallet with all the works and launching as DAO. Super cool if you ask me.

Like any other observant blockchain enthusiast, I did wonder why Tally Ho wallet is decidedly free and open source. It’s been refreshing to find that the project’s genius minds believe that Web3 should be founded only on Web3 values and technology as opposed to a Web 2.0 slant to development that is also centralized.

Another reason Tally Ho is free and open-source is so that its codebase stays composable with its entire Web3 stack and safe from malicious corporations who might want to steal it.

Conclusion

The transparency and commitment to objectives at Tally Ho is everything to write home about and I’m loving every bit of progress.

Their commitment to the community also extends to developers who have free reign to contribute to the project in a way that has been guaranteed safe by Tally Ho’s use of a copyleft software license. What more could any DAO lover ask for?
