Void
By Shelley M. Latreille

Death lurks within the vicinity, sinisterly waiting.
The extinguishment of your life-force follows abruptly.
The kerosene pours slowly over you.
It drips upon the ground and lazily flows outward.
The match is struck and tossed into the air.
Within milliseconds, your body bursts forth into flames.
You simply melt, your smug smile becoming a slow burning frown.
You are melted to the core.
Your soul suffocates and tries to take one last breath.
It casts one last shadow and simply disappears
as you disintegrate into a pile of ashes upon the ground.
The wind promptly lifts your ashes away and you disappear.
Death leaves the scene…
There is simply nothing left.
Not even repentance can mend you.
No one will ever believe you actually existed.
And I wanted you to know I surreptitiously kept your eyes for their resale value.
Now it’s my turn to shine.
I will cast an ominous glare into your eyes as they blankly stare at me,
blinding them null and void.
