Splinterlands Challenge of the Week: Mycelic SlipSpawn

This week's Splinterlands Challenge of the Week was to showcase the Mycelic SlipSpawn from the Earth Splinter...

While high in mana at 9 points this is one of the most essential cards to have in your Earth Splinter Line up - with a massive 10 health points and 2 magic damage (3 if you play with Obsidian), and while slow, with magic speed does not matter so much.

And of course there is also the taunt ability, which is so very handy if playing with weaker health cards you want to keep alive for longer!

And all this at Level 1!

The battle below features a Level 1 SlipSpawn playing a crucial role in a crushing victory!

The Rule Set and Line Up

  • Mana cap -99!
  • Standard Rules apply (Bronze League!)

Summoner - Obsidian - For the plus one magic attack!

  1. Unicorn Mustang - One of the best tanks in Earth for higher mana battles
  2. Sporcerer - Magic attack one and RUST
  3. Spirit Druid Grogg - Magic attack two and resurrect for (most likely) the SlipSpawn
  4. Goblin Psychic - Magic attack 3 and heal
  5. Mittica HeadHunter - super high ranged damage for the mana.
  6. Myelic SlipSpwan - the feature card played at the back for taunt and decent magic attack 4!

Did my strategy work?

Beautifully, to see it in action click here!

  • Round 1 - I take out my opponent's SlipSpawn
  • Round 2 - Then back at me as I lose my SlipSpawn straight off the bat, but then oh... Resurrect kicks in, then I take out my Opponent's Unicorn and then I lose my SlpSpawn again! I also take out my opponents' Knifer this round.
  • Round 3 - It's all over - I finish off my opponent's remaining cards!

How important was The SlipSpawn?

Absolutely crucial - interestingly both of us played it and it was the fact that I took out my opponent's SlipSpawn first (and mine being resurrected) that contributed to my victory!

With my opponent's taunter out of the way I was able to make rapid progress through my opponent's line up, while mine lasted most of the way through round two.

However there was also the fact that I just piled in with the massive massive magic attack which helped carve through him rapido!

Final Thoughts: Mycelic SlipSpawn - worth buying?

The fact that both of us played the SlipSpawn I think tells you something.... that this really is a crucial card for higher mana cap battles when you're playing Earth!

And at Max Level it becoming even more formidable mainly through the two abilities - slow and forcefield but also because of gaining another two health points, one more magic attack and one more speed point.

This card is defo up there in my top buys for Splinterlands!

In the summer of 2014, when I turned 41, I set myself the goal of retiring from paid-work by the age of 52. This blog charts my own strategy and progress, and explores different theories of financial independence and 'extreme early retirement'. It also provides the odd tip on how you might also retire early!
