Casi (Acai) bowls

Easy CASI (ACAI) Bowl

By space6irl | raw-vegan | 25 Jan 2022

In Spanish, ‘casi’ means ‘almost’.

This is almost an acai bowl (it sure tastes like an acai bowl-so I named it Casi).

This raw vegan Casi (Acai) bowl recipe is the perfect way to get an Acai flavor, without costing you as much as actual Acai. Though if you do have Acai, a tablespoon or so could make this recipe even more rawsome!!

Casi (Acai) Bowl

This is an acai flavored, purely fruit-based ice cream, with chopped fruits on top.    Total Time: 10 mins Servings: 2

  • food processor or Vitamix

  • 3 cups frozen berries (blueberries, strawberries, and/or blackberries)
  • yummy fruit (e.g. kiwi, berries, banana, etc.)

  • Chop the fruit into bite size pieces.
  • Add the frozen berries into a food processor with the agave & blend until ice-cream consistency.
  • Put the ice-cream into a bowl with the chopped fruit on top and enjoy 🙂

  • Make sure to chop the fruit first, so that the ice cream doesn’t melt.
  • You may need to pulse the processor several times. If the ice cream is not a smooth texture after awhile, add a little more agave.
  • If using a Vitamix blender, you will need to use the tamper to push the ice cream towards the blades. Sometimes the appliance will overheat and shut off. It can be turned back on after it cools down for several minutes and then you can resume.

Fruit is the best food to start your day with.

Societal influence has programmed many to shun fruit. Some people even believe that sugars derived from fruit are bad. I might have believed this before, after hearing it so many times. That’s how conditioning and programming works on the mind.

I finally did lots of research on fruit and got the facts. I now understand fruit is one of the best foods we can eat!

I’m going to share what I learned as simply as possible. I hope my pursuit of research-based nutritional information will at least inspire you to research more on human health topics yourself, versus defaulting to popularly-held beliefs that might not always be based on sound evidence.

Fruit is better to start your day with than coffee. It actually gives you ‘clean’ energy; whereas, coffee depletes your energy.

Sugars derived from fruit often have been thrown into the same conversation as refined sugars and therefore have gotten a bad reputation. However, fruit sugars and refined sugars are not the same. Humans are carbon based beings who run on carbohydrates for fuel.

Fruit has simple sugars (fructose, ribose, and/or deoxyribose) which act as the fuel for the cells in our body.

Refined sugars, on the other hand, have sucrose. Sucrose is a complex sugar so the body has to break this down into simple sugars in order to utilize it. Doing so requires excessive insulin and also creates glucose, which is stored in the body as fat). (Note: this also debunks the myth that fruit is bad for those with diabetes.)

“Raw fruits and vegetables are always your best sources of simple sugars. This is one reason why your body becomes stronger and more energetic on these foods. Foods high in protein and low in sugars, or foods high in complex-sugars, rob your body of vital energy, create acidosis and elevate blood sugars “

-Robert Morse, N.D.

Coffee is loaded with caffeine.

“Caffeine is a xanthine alkaloid, and like most alkaloids is bitter in taste. It is present in the seeds (like coffee beans) and leaves (like tea leaves) of some plants.

The caffeine itself is a defense mechanism against herbivores. The goal of any species is to get its genetic material into the gene pool, and a small mammal or insect munching on the seeds of Coffea could be paralyzed or killed – or up ’til 3 a.m. playing Call of Duty.

[In the human body, this alkaloid works by] antagonizing the effects of adenosine, a purine nucleoside that suppresses activity in the central nervous system.

Caffeine thus stimulates the neurotransmission of acetylcholine, dopamine, and epinephrine.

[The effect is increased] sensory perceptions and increased sustained  attention via acetylcholine, increased motor control and arousal via dopamine, and an increased heart rate via epinephrine.

We call this type of drug a stimulant.”

Caffeine also acts on the adrenal glands, and causes them to release cortisol. This immediate release of cortisol produces a “fight or flight” response in the body. Over time, however, this chronic stress exhausts the adrenal glands, leading to long term fatigue, and a higher susceptibility to sickness.

Casi Acai raw vegan fruit bowls

I hope you learned a few facts on why fruit is essential for our bodies to function properly.  I also hope you understand why caffeine is not good for our body’s long term energy.. With this evidence, it’s clear to see why a raw vegan Casi Acai Bowl recipe is a better option for clean and lasting energy, versus coffee. I hope you try and love this Casi Acai Bowl as much as I do! Leave a comment on what you think after you try it. 🙂
