Tulostoma fimbriatum The fruiting body is formed under the surface of the earth (hypogeic), it is then spherical; ripens over the surface of the earth (epigeically), mature fruiting body has the shape of a thick stick with a spherical head at the top.

The head has a spherical shape, 5 to 15 mm in diameter. The outer layer (exoperidium) covering the young fruiting body is white, later rusting. It is thin, unstable, breaks during the lengthening of the hearth, easily crumbles, entangling the hyphae together with the surface molecules, the spherical inner layer (enderidium), it falls off early, although it may remain at the base of the head as a strip of narrow krusty.

Stem full, hard, straight, recessed in the ground or slightly protruding to the surface. Height 20 to 60 mm and thickness 3 to 5 mm. In color initially whitish, then ocher-brown to chestnut. Surface smooth to scaly, sometimes with longitudinal furrows. The cross-section is creamy white.

Occurrence: In rare luminous forests or outside the forest, in dry, sunny, sandy places. On light or limestone soils. It grows in autumn, but fruiting bodies can be found throughout the year. Rare in Poland.

Value: Unaffected fungus. Saprophyte.
