
Melanoleuca cognata var. cognata - Hat 25-130 mm in diameter, hygrophanous; initially convex, with a rolled up edge, later spread out, with a wide hump in the middle, with a straight margin, with a wavy, turned back lid. Surface bare, smooth when slightly viscous when wet; ocher brown, brown, dark red-brown, fading with age. The edge is slightly lighter, slightly ribbed, translucent.
Lamellae dense, broad, bulging, with a smooth blade, adnate to the stipe or tapering; young gray-white, beige, quickly dirty cream-yellow, ocher, brownish.
Stem 30-120 mm high, 5-12 mm thick; usually shorter than the diameter of the cap; equal, dilated tuber at the base overgrown with strongly white mycelium. Cap-like surface, beige, beige-brown, longitudinally white-fibrous, slightly fluffy at the top.
The flesh is quite thin, unchanging; whitish, slightly brown in the lower part of the stipe. Mild, herbal, mushroom, grass aroma.
Occurrence: On the ground, in grassy places, in different types of forests, and usually outside of forests, along roads, in gardens, orchards, parks, and landfills. It grows individually or in groups, usually from April to May, less often also in autumn, from September to November; quite common.
Value: Edible mushroom.
