Amanita caesarea - Hat with a diameter of 80 to 200 mm, golden, orange, orange-red in color, fading in old age. Initially almost spherical, later hemispherical, flat-arched, with age flat. Surface smooth, naked, sometimes with white, flaky remains of the cover. In older individuals, the margin is clearly notched.

Gills thick, unpolluted, with a finely serrated blade. Pale yellow, with golden-yellow age.

Stem high up to 160 mm, yellow, golden yellow; cylindrical, tuber thickened at the bottom. A thickening surrounded by a loose, white scabbard. In his youth he was full, with age tube-empty and break-away.

The ring is big, hanging, golden yellow, yellow.

The flesh is whitish, yellowish, only in the white tuber. Golden-yellow under the skin. Taste and smell pleasant but indefinable.

Occurrence: In deciduous, clear and warm forests, usually on the southern slopes and at the foot of hills in the warm regions of southern Europe, very rarely in Central Europe. It grows from July to November.

Value: edible fungus.
