Foraging Fun #1 - Forsythia

Foraging Fun #1 - Forsythia

By jday1235 | Pursuit of Knowledge | 6 May 2026

Here in the Northeast of the US the plant known by its genus Forsythia is considered invasive. It is not from here, but finds itself present in many yards as it shows off some beautiful yellow flowers very early in the season. Turns out, it is actually edible (and potentially medicinal)! Last week I ripped off a bunch of the flowers to dry for making tea, but as you can see in the photo: I barely even made a dent! The tea is quite earthy tasting, which I personally enjoy, and goes well with a bit of honey.

So get out there and eat your invasives!!
